We were surprised how run down the monument was allowed to become and we still have no idea what it commentates. It definitely brings back memories of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, especially the traffic circle encircling both. A great Lao, Vientiane landmark. a must see when in Lao. Unfortunately it was closed when we visited but the view seems to be great over the city. More

When we saw it from a distance, we were reminded of Paris' Arc de Triomph at once. But when we saw it close up, we saw certain architectural features that made it uniquely Lao. An interesting monument to visit if you're into history and architecture. More

The Victory Monument is well worth a visit and afford good views over Vientiane after you have climbed the 200 stairs! The top 2 levels contain souvenir shops. There is a park at the ground floor with fountain. Watch out for the pushy (literally they pushed my wife out the way) photographers. More
