It may look like its more famous cousin, but on closer inspection is no patch on it. It does stand out in the small city and probably worht dropping by if you're cycling around the city.

near the bus station, a bit of a walk from most hotels but worth a look, the ceiling inside is painted otherwise not a lot to see. U can see it from wat si saket if U dont want to walk too far.

We were surprised how run down the monument was allowed to become and we still have no idea what it commentates. It definitely brings back memories of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, especially the traffic circle encircling both. There are gift shops on each level and great views of the city and surrounding countryside from the 3 observation levels....

A great Lao, Vientiane landmark. a must see when in Lao.
Unfortunately it was closed when we visited but the view seems to be great over the city.

When we saw it from a distance, we were reminded of Paris' Arc de Triomph at once. But when we saw it close up, we saw certain architectural features that made it uniquely Lao. An interesting monument to visit if you're into history and architecture.

The Victory Monument is well worth a visit and afford good views over Vientiane after you have climbed the 200 stairs! The top 2 levels contain souvenir shops. There is a park at the ground floor with fountain. Watch out for the pushy (literally they pushed my wife out the way) photographers.

also known as The Victory Monument, this glorious landmark is located on Lane Xang Road. it might look like a block of concrete from afar but get near, the architecture is amazing. pay 3000 kip (less than a dollar) and get up the stairs to the top. from here, you get a panoramic view of vientiane city. perfect for photographers...
