This stupa is a symbol of Laos and deserves a visit. It is obviously a very sacred site. It is more impressive from a distance than up close, however.

After travelling up through Thailand and down the Mekong, I found Vientiane somewhat boring after all the sights and activities I had already done. That said The Great Stupa was one attraction that made Vientiane a little worthwhile. The Stupa could be far on foot if you staying near the Mekong but if you have a day to spare then... More

The most sacred stupa in Laos, and it's worth seeing. it's a bit outside the city centre, but we walked there in a couple of hours. If you like walking you get to see to much more of the city, but a tuk-tuk is also a great way of getting there.

An important part of Lao history and a very impressive monument. A bit out out the way but well worth it. Also bought my major souvenirs here as they had items I never saw elsewhere. Took a ton of pictures (including the family of chickens with their new born's).

We visited late afternoon, which was probably quite a good time to go as the crowds had all gone, and the square in front of the stupa was virtually empty, and the gold on the stupa just glistens. The surrounding temple buildings are quite interesting to look at too.

Pretty impressive both from the exterior and the interior. There’s a small market near the entrance that sell wares catered to tourists. If you are around the area, do check out the three other temples located just beside this stupa. They are free to enter and one of them house a number of nice paintings.

What an amazing stupa. The area is easily accessible and the surrounding garden area is well maintained. It is not until you actually get there that you appreciate how big it is. The stupa is painted gold and is surrounded by a high walled cloister, two sides of which contain various buddha images. Worth stopping off for.

A very good introduction to the history and culture of Laos. This temple is easy to find, impressed with the huge empty space in the front of this temple.

Nice looking from the distance not to mention to take a picture. Not much to see inside but looks fantastic from outside. You may visit some near by temples to take a picture from the top.

I have been to That luang many times. It is a great experience to see the monument. Lao people are so proud of That luang and I am also. There is a That luang festival in November which is packed with stores and activities to do for all ages. Its a must see when in Vietiane.
