The Brunei Museum was established in 1965, with its first administrative office at the Civic Centre in Bandar Brunei, now known as Bandar Seri Begawan. Given approval for a building of its own, a location was selected for the museum, on a historical site, at Kota Batu about 5km from Bandar Seri Begawan. The construction of the building commenced in 1968 and was completed in 1970. It was officially opened on February 29, 1972 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of United Kingdom.

Loved looking at the different gifts that the Sultan received from every country. Knowing about the Sultan's life was also interesting.

We drove around an a weekend where they were having a Museum Race, the place looked a little quiet. We parked the car then walked to the front door and it was shut until further notice due to renovations. The ladies on the front door could not advise when it will reopen. Shame as we were looking forward to seeing... More

Hello from Bandar Seri Begawan, precisely in the center of the capital of Brunei Darussalam. Museum Brunei is the nice museum, I saw the collection of valuables belonging to the King of Brunei, this was so much fun I'm very happy to have visited the Brunei Museum.

(and has been since 2014), there are no updates as to when it will be re opened. Please check with the tourist office or call the museum before heading out here, as its several kilometers from the city center of BSB.

There is much about his heritage, but so little if any regarding the country and its people. The Sultan is very wealthy and powerful! The displays are well presented and... More

This is really a display of Sultan and his heritage rather than a museum of area and culture. Reminded me of museum of Elvis or Liberace, showing how much wealth and power the Sultan has here. He is head of finance, defense, cultural affairs and court system.

The building is easy to find in the middle of the city, not far from any hotel or BK. Want to know more about history, the sultans family, the religion? Don't hesitate and visit National Brunei Regalia. Inside you will find mostly artifacts from the roayal Brunai family life. Coronation items and attires with many gifts from the APEC members...
