Given approval for a building of its own, a location was selected for the museum, on a historical site, at Kota Batu about 5km from Bandar Seri Begawan. The construction of the building commenced in 1968 and was completed in 1970. It was officially opened on February 29, 1972 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of United Kingdom. « less

Since we are inveterate museum buffs, we were keen on seeing it and were armed with information about it well before we got to Brunei. However, we did neglect to check whether the museum was operational - and of course, what we did... More

Was looking forward to going there but was closed for renovation. Perhaps it would be worth a visit when it reopens.

I don't know how to rate this location, because it's closed. See my photo. My hotel (Brunei Hotel) offered me a map nearby. It shown me the location of Brunei Museum, however they didn't told me, the museum is closed. See my photo

We went to Brunei Darussalam last February 2014. We were so amazed by all the places we went to. One of the best things in Brunei is that all their museums are free no entrance charge. They are so clean and staffs are so polite and friendly. They are very law abiding citizens. High regards/respect to their laws. Streets and... More

I don't know how to rate this place. It was full of disappointment. Such a big museum, they can't convey the message that they are closed. Went there on yesterday 7th March 2014. I reached at the main entrance, seems normal. I went to car park to park the car. No security guard on duty but the gate left opened.... More

It's a bit of a distance from the center of the city . You may hire a local guide to bring you. It's informative on how Brunei got to be Brunei as we know it today.

The museum consists of 3 galleries, one gallery showcases the animals and plants of Brunei, the other showcases the oil economy within Brunei, both galleries can be avoided, I personally found it uninteresting. The Islamic gallery was quite fascinating as many historical relics and artefacts were gathered from across the Islamic World, mainly from Iran, Egypt, Turkey and India, with... More

Eventhough three of the six sections were closed the three remaining sections gave ample oportunities to view the history of islamic art, the biodiversity of Brunei and the history of the oil- and gas exploration. Especialy the bio section is nice to visit with children. The islamic art section shows Beautifull historical artifacts of Iran, the middeleast and the mediteranian.... More

A great musium to get to know the royal family and opulence in Brunei. All displays are real and what you would expect in such a rich country. Definitely worth a visit.
