I stayed in a hotel in the old city and it was interesting. The city government is trying to preserve the old city and it looks fairly good. Lots of small winding pedestrian streets with stairs - interesting things to discover. The store owners are pushy but not so obnoxiously like in Istanbul Grand Bazaar. I wish I had more... More

Baku's Old City is an enjoyable maze of narrow streets within spectacular city walls. Shah's palace is the top attraction. Just wander around and enjoy atmosphere or a cup of local traditional tea in one of the cafes. More

read all reviews its very unpleasent to read some feedbacks regarding bad smell and dirty streets. I travelled to many countries can honestly state that old city is not dirty, there is no bad smell. You should visit this place for sure if you want to feel ancient walls,stones..history of ancient Baku. Shops are overspriced, I agree, but its common... More

Excluding the historical value, the city is not well maintained, noisy, used by bazar stores and street merchandisers for other purposes than history and cultural value which it is supposed to add to city. More

The audio tour you can get near Maiden's Tower in the Tourist Office is a great way to learn about the history of the Old City, and is a bargain at only 5 manat. More

The trip will take ~2 hours. Don't forget the Palace of the Shirvanshahs. More

Old city (Icheri Sheher) in Baku is the inner city surrounded by walls in 1538 it became the capital when the previous one was destroyed by earthquake "Shamakhi" the inner parts of the city including the walls go back to the 1th 12th centuries; you can spend hours looking and walking it's a photographers heaven and not to be missed... More
