Just take a few minutes to go inside the Cathedral. Having seen the real Notre Dame in Paris, I was somewhat disappointed with this Cathedral. The exterior did not seem too impressive to me and the interior, even less so. However, it is right across the street from the Post Office , which I found far more interesting.

In a pleasant square, worth an exterior shot but if you are with a group leave out the interior and head into the infinitely more interesting Post Office, newly painted, very yellow, with good photo opportunities and postcards with stamps.

From the mid-1800’s to mid-1900’s Southern Vietnam was a French colony. The French Catholic Church needed a base and somewhere to hold religious services for French colonialists so, in the late 1880’s, a building based on/inspired by Paris’s Notre Dame Cathedral was built. The biggest difference, structurally(and apart from the overall size), are the two bell towers at the front... More

I'm not religious but I do appreciate design. The French must have lost the plot sometime after having built some of the most inspiring religious buildings in the world. This is a colourless affair (yes it is RC) that looks unloved. Perhaps it's a different affair during a service but at the time of our visit (11 am) there was... More

The cathedral is only open 9 to 11.Proably a good thing .Very little of interest and beauty inside .Yes it is large but that is about it .Nothing explaining its history and so dull .Have a glance and walk across the road to the delights of the old post office . An interior for the religious only .I have to... More

If you are in the area looking at the Post Office which is 80 yards away then this piece of French history is worth a second glance. Well worth the look.............

This cathedral is centrally located in a nice part of the city but there is not much to see as the pews and altar are gated off during non-mass times. Wish there had been a guide or some literature to explain the architecture and art. Looks like the mass would be a lovely affair so go during that time.

The French colonialists missed home very much. So, they copied the Famous cathedral from Paris and created a copy here in Saigon. If you are here (probably because of the central post office) don't miss it.

It was nice to see and take a few photos but there are plenty of hawkers around trying to sell you postcards and other things you don't want. Still, this building is worth a visit.
