Water puppetry said to have originated in Northern Vietnam and was brought to Ho Chi Minh city by refugees when the country was split into two. The show itself is impressive - the puppets are being controlled from the back (or is it underwater), with the water hiding the control mechanisms. The puppet masters are very skillful and talented, as... More

This very extraordinary water puppet show is absolutely wonderful and marvellous with traditional vietnamese music in the background. Humorous! Extremely skillful performance done totally in water!

The puppets are nice but the show is boring as it is only in Vietnamese. We understood that the show is about the Vietnamese way of life, fishing, rice plantation, etc. 45 minutes was too much.

My partner suggested we go. I wasn't sure what to expect, although it was all in Vietnamese, it was easy to grasp what was happening. The way in which the water puppets are made to move is amazing! Well worth the visit, for a few pence more, get front row seats!

Althought because of language it is difficult to understand the story, I consider this performance as acessible way for foreigners how to see at least a bit from vietnamese culture (art).

We got there about 10 minutes prior to the show starting and were given front row seats. The show was full of amazingly skilled puppeteers and musicians telling traditional Vietnamese tales. Sitting so close, we got splashed a few times by the dragon. Kids enjoyed it, but keep the programme close at hand so you know what's going on with... More

I went along to the puppet show with my friends whilst travelling around Vietnam. It was not my idea to go along. I found the whole show bizarre, humourless and tedious. I would not recommend going along.

Originating from the delta of the Red River, puppetry is a traditional art which developed as a result of the need for entertainment in the rural area. Since water puppetry originated from the rural area, the stories are centred on rural life with strong reference to Vietnamese folklore. The water puppetry probably gets its stories told from generation to generation... More

It was in vietnamese but we enjoyed it nevertheless. Show was for 45 minutes, start on time - impressive.

Pre book this show if you want to go, we didn't and we're disappointed when we couldn't get a ticket.
