I've been in Vietnam for 3 months when I visited the Museum of Ethnology. I went with a local vietnamese who had been there before. The museum is medium-sized with 2 floors and enough to keep you interested for 1-2 hours. The gardens are beautiful and peaceful. They include some authentic village buildings that you can go inside and see.... More
This was a cab ride from our area in the old quarter but it is a lovely museum, highlighting different cultures, history, and an outdoor village with lots of information. I was certainly glad we made the trip. There is a nice little coffee house on grounds that is connected with a cooking school for disadvantaged kids that had great... More
Even though it was pouring rain, the kids and I all loved it. Video presentations, lots of artifacts, so much to see outside-housing structures of different minority groups, hands on, climb on, very interactive.
Get a local guide to take you here. There is so much to look at and you would get lost wothout a guide explaining all the little intricate details of the various areas of Vietnam and their specific cultural differences.
Really fascinating! Out in the garden they have full scale examples of traditional homes found among the different peoples in Vietnam. Things are labeled well. or i can get the assistance from student docents who are happy to practice their english and show you around. Inside there were a lot more exhibits-- all informative. Great place to while away the... More
Easy to get around - however, a guide helps! We wnet there as part of a tour and only had about one hour there. I would have really liked a few more hours to take my time and absorb information about different tribes.

We did have our own Vietnamese tour guide who aided our understanding. There is an excellent cafe here, where young hospitality students learn their trade - reasonably priced and nutritious food. There was a wedding party in... More
