There are two key parts to this day tour, i.e. a visit to an ancient temple in Hoa Lu, and then a river cruise at Tam Coc. The latter provides visitors with a scenic view of the hills and countryside in Vietnam, via a 1.5-hour boat ride. Each boat can accommodate between 2 to 3 passengers, operated by a friendly... Tam Coc is a beautil place with history but not very much to see. Hoa Lu is a wonderful place for a little boat trip but you have to know that the good period is February (When the rice is green or yellow) otherwise you are going to be desapointed because it won't be the same as in the pictures.... We, unfortunately, splurged on this trip and had a private tour. Essence Hotel supplied a guide and driver in a new 4x4. The driver, car and guide were excellent. On the way, everyone stops at the mandatory craft shop where disabled children (reportedly due to Agent Orange) are on display sewing handicrafts. Expect a well deserved western guilt trip and... I was on the boat and go through caves, it was so cold. After on the boat, we climbed hills, a lot of hill surrounds river or stream. It love it very much. I wound come back here again. High recommend.

The road trip from Hanoi is about 2.5 hour with a toilet break at a rest area selling Vietnamese handicrafts and a small cafe. The mini bus may be a bit uncomfortable for those sitting at the back throughout the sometimes bumpy ride. Hao Lu was the ancient royal capital of Vietnam. You may observe the Chinese influence including geomancy... More

Most trips take at least two hours to get to out of Hanoi. This was no exception. We enjoyed the boat trip meandering through the caves and rice fields. We were advised to give a tip to the woman driving the boat (1 dollar is advised) We also went on a bike ride, although the bikes were a bit old... More

Both tours were super. Rich in cultural and historical experiences and food. The nature is stunning. I did not like the travel by the minibus as the roads are bumpy and slow and it can almost take all the pleasure away, but if you use that time wisely it's OK. If the transport had been a bit quicker the tour... More

Except for the bum killer minibus journey, this tour offers a great insight in the Vietnamese countryside. Of course, all the pictures on the website and tourist guides were taken in the summer, when the river is surrounded by paddy fields and the sky perfectly blue. In December, the tour doesn't immerse in the same lushness but the spectacle of... More

We booked a day tour to Hoa Lu and "Halong on the Land" which is Tam Coc. Known some history of the Thang dynasty at Hoa Lu. The most interesting visit was the Tam Coc. We had a 6km small boat ride which roll by their foot and all we need is just relax and enjoy the wonderful view along... More

Hoa Lu is the ancient royal capital of Vietnam in 10th and 11th centuries. It is located 2 hours (car journey) from Hanoi. Normally tourists will visit this destination together with Tam Coc. We reached Hao Lu at about 11.00am. After went down from our van, there are many locals trying to approach you as to sell stuffs to the... More
