"This is a very small concert for about 40 persons held in an ancient house in the old quarter of Hanoi. It is a World Heritage Intangible experience that is striving to keep this ancient musical performance from dying. It is about an hour show. They are quite good about explaining the instruments and the history of the music. They even let you come try out the instruments. The hot tea and little cake is a nice touch at intermission"-visited wrote"The singers had such dear, expressive faces and sang with such intensity. The instruments were unique and had a real otherworldly quality to them and the presentation and overall performance were of a very high quality. I felt delighted, entertained and educated. Well worth going to see."-Visited wrote « less

Music was strange to my Western ears, though the people in the show were very nice in explaining the importance of the music. You can even go and try to play some of the instruments. A nice night show.

The people working with the Ca Tru Theatre are wonderful and friendly and helpful. The show, however, we were disappointed by. Neither one of us could really "get into" the musical pieces, although they did give us a program with short plot explanations for each act. If you're not sure about it, look up some traditional Vietnamese music online to... More

Mention upon vietnam,2 things pop into my mind that is 'French colony' and 'communism'. The war history of this country was too colourful that most of the attractions have somehow related to it. However Ca Tru introduced a completely unknown face of vietnam. The music instruments are similar to chinese traditional instruments. Music reminds me of 19th century of china.... More

The show is held in the old house that have much similarity with Chinese strait house that found a lot in Malaysia. The music itself really slow and melancholy. The most interesting part is the music instruments that only consist of several instruments (around 5) but can be combined among them and form beautiful music. Not sure if the performer... More

It was a somehow very weird melody which I guess, might have existed for century. It is a Vietnamese traditional music but may be it only suit Vietnamese I think.

It is very Vietnam-originated and traditional. As Vietnam was deeply influenced by Chinese in the history (apart from its French legacy), I found Ca Tru not far from Chinese Pingtan (a form of story telling singing accompanied by one or two musical instruments). It is indeed very different from western music form such as symphony or chamber music which is... More

There were ten of us inthe audience. Two left before the end of the one hour performance. Hard chairs, poor lighting and street noise are not conducive to a warming experience. I liked the dancing, but this only lasted for five minutes, sadly. The music , for me , lacked harmony and there were always three performers, so limited in... More

I expected to be just interested in this different from of art...I was actually entertained! This is really good! not only is it interesting to discover this art, it is also beautiful and funny! the scenes were all in Vietnamese but it is easy to understand what is happening and to giggle along. Definitely, definitely worth it. for some reasons... More
