Owner description: Local music in a historical setting at ancient houseCa Tru Thang Long Guild is a voluntary, non-profit group of ca tru musicians founded in 2006. "This is a very small concert for about 40 persons held in an ancient house in the old quarter of Hanoi. It is a World Heritage Intangible experience that is striving to keep this ancient musical performance from dying. It is about an hour show. They are quite good about explaining the instruments and the history of the music. They even let you come try out the instruments. The hot tea and little cake is a nice touch at intermission"-visited wrote"The singers had such dear, expressive faces and sang with such intensity. The instruments were unique and had a real otherworldly quality to them and the presentation and overall performance were of a very high quality. I felt delighted, entertained and educated. Well worth going to see."-Visited wrote

Received a flyer from a student about the upcoming show. very cheap for what you get. Interesting even if you can't understand Viet. Pay more for the English translation. A series of short performances with traditional slants.

Excellent show - displaying traditional Vietnamese skills and stories. Entertaining and funny. Just long enough. A highlight of my trip to Hanoi.

Brilliant - lots of fun, very skilled puppeteers. I wish they didn't allow photography - flash is very distracting. When people are videoing the show they hold cameras up high, which impedes the view of those behind.

Truth be told - I wasn't too enthusiastic about going to watch the water puppet show here. That negative feeling only multiplied when I sat down towards the rear of the theatre and the seat in front of me was about four inches away! As soon as the lights dimmed - I sang a different tune! The puppet stage is... More

We were amazed by this show, The musicians and the singers were mesmerising,we were a little disappointed to see only 8 people in the audience, maybe this should be advertised more and its truly worth seeing.

The puppet show was interesting, the music was great. However the seats are very close together so if you an average size western man it will not be very comfortable however it only goes for an hour.

The show itself was very comprehensive with traditional singing, musical instruments and some very clever puppetry. We went to a 4pm session which was packed full. Apply insect repellent because mozzies attack in the theatre. Also arrive a bit earlier so you don't have to climb over people or interrupt the show. Boo hiss!

I may have set high expectation, after the "Siam NIramit" show in Thailand. The water puppet itself is indigenous and good, but there is no story line or theme that is followed during the show. Since I don't know Viatnamese I wasn't able to appreciate the dialogues/discussions.

An absolute MUST to see and hear. This is a wonderful show, just too short! within walking distance from our Emerald Hotel, for those who want it, there is a very nice coffee/bakery attached.
