"Visiting Vietnam without listening to a rhythm of ca tru traditional music means that you've not discovered the real spirit of Vietnam yet." "Free yourself and get immersed in ca tru while enjoying performance by Thang Long Ca Tru Theatre. It is a voluntary, non-profit group of ca tru musicians founded in 2006. Long-time history, unique instruments, impressive music tones and meaningful song lyrics made ca tru recognized by UNESCO as the World Intangible Cutural Heritage." "This is a concert for about 70 persons held in an old temple in the old quarter of Hanoi. They are good about explaining the instruments and the history of the music. They even let you come try out the instruments. The hot tea and little cake is a nice touch at intermission" "The singers had such dear, expressive faces and sang with such intensity. The instruments were unique and had a real otherworldly quality to them and the presentation and overall performance were of a very high quality. I felt delighted, entertained and educated. Well worth going to see."-Visited wrote The show is on every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday night at 6pm and 8pm, Friday and Sunday night at 8pm at 28 Hang Buom (Quan De Temple).

The Ca Tru singing is not easy to explain. For the music lover of contemporary music, one can most easily compare it with John Cage's famous song "The Wonderful Widow of Eighteen Springs", but if Cage had heard Ca Tru, he would have been totally enthralled. For the average music lover, Ca Tru can probably best be explained by its... More

Please take time out to go here. These wonderful people are so dedicated to preserving a traditional type of singing and music that all but died out in Vietnam after a few years ago. Due to an initiative from the Vietnamese government to preserve and teach ancient culture they have funded this guild in order to raise awareness of Ca... More

Ca tru is traditional Vietnamese music. It was first recognized in the beginning of the 15th century. After a great number of historical changes, sometimes it appeared to be unable to survive. However, to date ca tru has confirmed its important position not only in Vietnamese culture but in that of humanity worldwide as well. Ca Tru singing has distinctive... More

I could not understand all words but I love the music and the way they give them to me. It's just a small house (Temple) with over 10 guests, I also had chance to eat green cake and drink a cup of green tea, very nice taste. I highly recommend this show!

Frankly, if this was a TV show, I would have changed channels after a minute or two. But I had paid ten bucks, plus they gave me some tea and a sweetie, so I settled in. The sound grows on you after a while, and by the end, I would have liked to listen to another song or two. Give... More

Fantastic. Great setting - performed in a small temple - we were right up close. Included a potted history and a chance to touch and try the instruments. Cost all of 12aud for a one hour performance. I highly recommend this.

Thank you for the beautiful art and performance. Good to know the performer is young and yet still preserve the value and culture of your country. Love the idea of this performance being held in this pre-historical traditional house. Surely a Concert not to miss when in Hanoi.

Tea and little cake in the middle of the show was very lovely and interesting. There were even a 4-year-old little singers :))) You also can try playing the musical instruments :D Highly recommended when you visit Hanoi and want... More

Received a flyer from a student about the upcoming show. very cheap for what you get. Interesting even if you can't understand Viet. Pay more for the English translation. A series of short performances with traditional slants.

Excellent show - displaying traditional Vietnamese skills and stories. Entertaining and funny. Just long enough. A highlight of my trip to Hanoi.
