Description: "Visiting Vietnam without listening to a rhythm of ca tru traditional...
"Visiting Vietnam without listening to a rhythm of ca tru traditional music means that you've not discovered the real spirit of Vietnam yet." "Free yourself and get immersed in ca tru while enjoying performance by Thang Long Ca Tru Theatre. It is a voluntary, non-profit group of ca tru musicians founded in 2006. Long-time history, unique instruments, impressive music tones and meaningful song lyrics made ca tru recognized by UNESCO as the World Intangible Cutural Heritage." "This is a concert for about 70 persons held in an old temple in the old quarter of Hanoi. They are good about explaining the instruments and the history of the music. They even let you come try out the instruments. The hot tea and little cake is a nice touch at intermission" "The singers had such dear, expressive faces and sang with such intensity. The instruments were unique and had a real otherworldly quality to them and the presentation and overall performance were of a very high quality. I felt delighted, entertained and educated. Well worth going to see."-Visited wrote The show is on every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday night at 6pm and 8pm, Friday and Sunday night at 8pm at 28 Hang Buom (Quan De Temple).

It's a must visit place. Water puppet theatre is nice but too commercial so if you after unique, traditional, cultural experience, there is no better choice in Hanoi.

When visit Hanoi, beside food tourism, Ca Tru is one of strange thing that you should try. The theater is located inside the pedestrian streets within Old Quarter, easy to find. This kind of ancient music is unique that you can't find in other country, even in southeastern Asia. During the performance, they introduce the instruments and invite you to... More

Lovely location despite the braying of the Ruperts and Camillas outside on their gap yahs. But. What makes it is how deadly serious in intent the performers are and how much they mean it, if that makes sense. Unusual evening and a good one.

This is one art form of singing ancient Hanoi, combining drums, beats, above. We heard not understand, but the melody was great, so it's not easy to sing, if you have not vocals, soaring, and long-term practice. Known kind is extinct, a few people attend, but it has great cultural value of Vietnam.

On noisy crowded walking street, the temple looks small as other personal house. But the architect inside looks so subtle and classic that it s very suitable with traditional music performance. You can drink jasmine tea and bean cake and experience playing the musical instrument also.

The singing was beautiful and the performers took pains in involving the audience in their performance. Listening to what is, a nearly lost art made the show all the more fascinating.

The show is performed by a group of professionals. But I doubt everyone of them are professionally trained, the girl who received us have great grasp of English, but she seems to be the least knowledgable person during the Q&A in the end. The form of presentation the show is not common. Guests are asked to try the instruments merely... More

Enjoyed the performance of instruments and singing that goes back many, many years. Takes several years to learn the singing and not too many young people want to be involved.

Stop by midweek, or midday, to get your tickets and arrive a bit early to sit right up front. Then, be prepared to be wowed as classically-trained vocalists and musicians resurrect Ca Tru, an ancient genre of chamber music that will bend your ears backwards and build your appreciation for Asian art and culture. The sounds are unique, at times... More
