Mr Tinh picked us up from our hotel, and took us to the restaurant (which wasn't actually that far away). He gave us a tour of the local market (about 1.5hrs), where we sampled a number of local foods - this was particularly interesting as we'd have been unable to get as much useful information from the stallholders without Mr Tinh.... 2 x over 45s, first time in Vietnam. Tinh is a very affable and knowledgeable guide who was instructive and made the course fun. Tinh has a good working knowledge of English, and is a good conversationalist, and while I don't know his quals he is knowledgable in the ways of food around the world. The trainer chef, Binh, (sp?)... More

My husband and I signed up for the Blue Butterfly cooking class by asking our hotel to ring the night before. I had read the reviews on here so we thought we better give it a try! At excatly 9am Mr Tinh arrived to pick us up (we were the only ones doing the class that morning), taxied to the... More

My husband Peter & I enjoyed a full morning from immersion in the marketplace after Mr. Tinh picked us up from our hotel, & we were shown many Vietnamese farm ingredients from fresh tumeric to dried wood ear mushrooms to fresh herbs. The fruits were explored in detail as we tasted one after another. In the restaurant, Chef Binh is... More

In february, my girlfriend and I joined a morning cooking class. Very informative, pleasant and tasty results! Nice market tour and tasting various things on our way. The class is not to formal, what we really like. Highly recommended!

Lots of classes in Hanoi, I don't know how this compares but we had a great day. We were told it would be 3 - 3 1/2 hours. Well it was nearly 6 as we were offered to make pho ba soup which needs to simmer. We started making the soup first so it could simmer then off to the... More

So much has been said about the cooking class, so we won't repeat. Instead, We shall add on - tinh(?) was lovely and personable. I'm not much of a cook. This was a vday activity for the boyfriend. But it Was an insightful morning spent with a true blue Vietnamese where, in addition to taking us to the market, he... More

Amazing morning in Hanoi! Our Guide, Tinh, picked us up at our hotel, offered us some delicious coffee at the Blue Butterfly restaurant and then took us to the market. As we were the only students this morning, we could ask a lot of questions and Tinh (who speaks 1a english) would eagerly answer them all. He explained all the... More

We were the only two people in the cooking class that day which was of great benefit to us: on our stroll around the local market our guide Thin answered our various questions and had us try everything from exotic fruits to deep fried seaworms. Back at the restaurant we got set up for cooking - we had great fun... More
