Because of their precipitous nature, most of the islands are uninhabited and unaffected by a human presence. The site's outstanding scenic beauty is complemented by its great biological interest. The outstanding value of the property is centered around the drowned limestone karst landforms, displaying spectacular pillars with a variety of coastal erosional features such as arches and caves which form a majestic natural scenery. The repeated regression and transgression of the sea on the limestone karst over geological time has produced a mature landscape of clusters of conical peaks and isolated towers which were modified by sea invasion, adding an extra elemant to the process of lateral undercutting of the limstone towers and islands. « less

The area is one of the most beautiful and breath taking places we have been to and it is so sad to see the it the way it is. The boats are continually dumping the effluent and we saw everything from nappies, tampons, plastic bottles through to raw poo floating in the water. Really hope the Vietnamese people/government takes charge... More

While Halong Bay is a UNESCO world heritage site, it is really a semi Disneyland. The bay itself is quite polluted. You see NO sea birds indicating no fish from terrible pollution. The bay is loaded with "luxury" junks which I spent a night on during an Amawaterways tour. The junk was comfortable, toured around the bay, had reasonable accommodations... More

Halong Bay is a must! My husband and I were there for our honeymoon and even though the weather was not great, the mist made the floating village and this place beautiful. Our Cruise was not the best choice and most feel too touristy for our taste, but Halong Bay is definitely worth it.

It was so disapointing to see how polluted and dirty the water is. There are plastic bottles and trash floating everywhere.

Halong Bay is very beautiful during daylight hours, but the overnight stay is painful. Unfortunately there is no avoiding this because it would be too rushed to go there and back in a day from Hanoi. My tour arrived at Ha Long City ferry port at noon. The boat I would spend the next 24 hours on was perfect, slept... More

This place is gorgeous and it cannot be captured in photos. Most tourist photos show blue skies, which is pretty rare in that area, instead it is almost always somewhat foggy which adds a degree of mysticism and 3D to the vistas that you can only experience in person! We did a 2day / 1night boat excursion and it was... More

We came to visit Halong Bay for nature, but we visited in April 2014 and I guess the weather was not the best. The area was very polluted and foggy, so we couldn't really enjoy the nice views. However, once we took the boat out for a day trip, the weather improved further out and it was nice seeing the... More

We enjoyed our trip to Halong Bay very much. The cruise we booked at Brilliant Halong Cruises agency was name "Galaxy Premium" with lovely cabin and great food. We had great time for visiting caves and floating village as well as did kayaking. All of activities were fabulous and amazing. The weather was supported us and we recommend to visit... More

It is a beautiful place, but it's so dirty and polluted that we didn't really enjoy it. We couldn't go swimming as the water was so dirty. The tours (good tours) are so overpriced that we really ended up asking ourselves if it is really worth the visit. We did a 3days/2 nights with glory cruises and were quite desappointed.... More
