Ha Long Bay, in the Gulf of Tonkin, includes some 1,600 islands and islets, forming a spectacular seascape of limestone pillars. Because of their precipitous nature, most of the islands are uninhabited and unaffected by a human presence. The site's outstanding scenic beauty is complemented by its great biological interest. The outstanding value of the property is centered around the drowned limestone karst landforms, displaying spectacular pillars with a variety of coastal erosional features such as arches and caves which form a majestic natural scenery. The repeated regression and transgression of the sea on the limestone karst over geological time has produced a mature landscape of clusters of conical peaks and isolated towers which were modified by sea invasion, adding an extra elemant to the process of lateral undercutting of the limstone towers and islands.

Halong Bay is heavily promoted in the tourist collateral even before arriving in Vietnam. As a result there is very high expectations, especially being a UNESCO world heritage listed area which is rightly so. It is evident that Tourism numbers on the bay and development in the surrounding region is taking the edge off. I was led to believe up... More

My friends recommended us to book a cruise through Brilliant Halong Cruises website and we also had a wonderful trip with them. Our cruise was new and spacious and our cabins on second floor with great view. They cooked great local food and offer drinks at meals for us as well. Remember that do not book a too cheap cruise... A Natural UNESCO Heritage site but good enough only for one time visit as there are much more beautiful places to see.

I've heard that Halong Bay is the real nature beauty and that's why we put it as one of our priority when we planned to go to Vietnam. We went out on a boat cruise to see the islands of Halong Bay. We were stayed 3 days 2 nights on cruise. A relaxing place and a heaven for photography. You... More

It is incredibly beautiful and is a must visit for every Vietnam visitor. Wow, nature has created its magical place on this planet, all those rocky mountains, water and beautiful greenery beautifully mixed to create a natures' wonderful place.

I had a trip to Halong bay on January or February this year, I took the 3 days 2 nights tour " and I don't recommend to take less" . Even though the weather was cold but I had an amazing time in Halong Bay, it was really worth it for the price I paid. Our tour was basically like... More

Got a great cruise via "Brilliant Halong Cruises" was worth value for money and activities. Trip included: transfer, kayak, tour guide, caves. They also arranged a private transfer directly from Halong Bay to airport after our cruise because we got a flight at 6pm. Worth it!

We visited for a day trip, but really worth it. We had nice lunch on a cruise which provides local food, but drinks are not included so be sure to buy before hand if you don't want to spend much for it. We stopped at the floating village and ride a rowing boat and it was a really beautiful boat... More

I personally think that this is ideal for 2 days 1 night visit. Leave Hanoi in the morning and reach out for the pier around noon (it takes 4hrs driving including 30min of coffee break). You have lunch and dinner on cruise/boats with set menu of seafood. In the afternoon, you will visit one big cave/grotto, you may visit one... More
