My boyfriend and I stayed right opposite this beach, which was awesome because this beach beautiful. Even on a rainy day, this beach gets pretty packed with people (mostly tourists of course) There is an endless row of beach chairs that goes all across the beach, you need to pay for it though which was around 100-200 baht.. can't remember... Sewerage flowing into the sea, rubbish everywhere, plastic and food thrown all over the place. Too many hawkers, tuk tuks everywhere, food sellers hawking overpriced cold food. Suit sellers, massage girls, only wanting sex for money. Ate at a reasonably looking restaurant...no english, not really good food and too expensive for what it was... $2.50 for coke... what a joke!

We went to Karon beach a couple of times while we were in Phuket. Very nice beach with the usual shops, restaurants and bars. A little busier than the beaches further north, except Patong. This area seems more suitable for families.

Taxis has agreed to take overprices from tourists. Big signs in Karon says that Airport trasfer is 1000 bath but theese gangters only drives for 1500 bath. They use the fact that you have to get to the Airport. Compare that a 6 hour roundtrip is the same price, 1500 bath.........good fair pricing???

I have just read some of the previous reviews of this beach, before writing my own and you have people moaning about tailors that let them down, or other people complaining the sea was too salty and the there was sand everywhere, think people are missing the point, we where staying in Patong and the sea there was a bit... My brother ordered two suits from S.scandi international tailors in patak road, Karon Beach situated near Centara Resort Karon Beach. The tailor is not associated with the hotel but is on the same road. Stay far away as the suits ordered were never delivered. They had 10 days to make the suit and on the final day said the suit... Same as Kata beach - which is just awful. Crowds and endless crowds of people, the prices for everything are sky high (Its Thailand, hello!) and the whole place is basically sand, water, crowds and endless cafes and shops. Maybe someone likes this kind of travel, but I dont.

Like so many " resorty" beaches the activities range from lounging on the sand, hiring a table/umbrella, swimming and relaxing away form your hotel. We stayed at the Old Phuket about central to Karon Beach and at that location there were little eateries, serving snacks and super-cold beers at very reasonable (best) prices. The beach itself is reasonably clean and... More
