This is the longest and apparently most popular beach on the island. Completely built up with hotels, bars and restaurants. Sand is light brown and fairly clean except where there is building reconstruction and nobody seems responsible for cleaning up the rubbish. Behind the buildings on the beach is a road with all the usual businesses. Can be a bit... More

Chaweng is perfect for people who are single ad want to party. Or for those who don't mind a bust scene. The beach is beautiful and has great sunsets. But there's a sea wall thing that turns the beach more into a lake of sorts, great in a way, but also a bit artificial. And that's Chaweng. Very nice but... More

The beach itself would have been nice at some stage I'm sure but now it is full of drunk tourists and seedy bars and restaurants. Not worth going here or Chewang in general in my opinion.

Plenty of hotels facing the beach, plenty of places to eat and drink and plenty of shops to go around. Just like your typical beach for tourists. Great if you're into your beach life.

Great place to spend a night there. Best to get around with scooter (of course, local taxi are also easily available). For self ride, note that this is a one way street, need to get all the way to the very end to turn into another lane to go back to wherever you came from. It's a very long street... More

Our hotel offers agree shuttle service to chaweng and bo Phut and although we prefer bo Phut (quieter and more calm) we like chaweng too- lots of atmosphere. Pubs, bars, shops, stalls, restaurants are a plenty and there is a huge new mall (wasn't here on our last visit 7 years ago!) It feels quite hectic at times but the... More

As a long time resident, I know this area well. Once it was a relaxed area open to the public with some great beach restaurants that were simple but value. then the nasty money buckets moved in. They have blocked public access to the beach with illegal (corrupt money) buildings. So now the only way onto the beach is through... More
