We were going to the night market at the Fisherman's Village in Bo Phut and stopped at Big Buddha before. It is okay, but not spectacular, they were either busy with renovations, or it is just really falling apart and in need of some serious maintenance. As usual with so many Thai attractions, you first have to make your way... More

I have mixed feeling about this place. It is certainly nice but not outstanding though I really cannot say it is not worth a visit, albeit a short one. Details are more interesting that the actual Buddha. Stuccos, glass mosaic statues are all rather nice. I would advise an early morning visit (was there at 8.00 am) to avoid the... More

An excursion with a difference. There are about 5 different temples in this one spot. Lots of stalls if you would like to shop (at a price of coarse) and others to buy eats and drinks. At one of these establishments you (or the children) can feed the catfish in the water around the temple.

My partner and I went to see the big Buddha during our stay in ko samui in July 2014. This temple is very much one to see up close in all it's glory. We would defiantly visit again.

Our 1y6m old daughter really enjoyed the size of the statute. The area around the buddah was run down (sectioned off areas with broken tiling, exposed lighting cables etc), but it looked as though repairs may (?) be planned for the future. This did not detract from the impressive statute, and we were able to watch the faithful use the... More

The temple is quite tranquil although they have made sure the locals have capitalised on the tourism and it is surrounded by cheap market stalls offering the same thing you can get anywhere else in Thailand. The monks and their followers are lovely people. You are ale to be blessed by a monk. Ladies make sure you wear something respectable... More

The cultural buildings and the beauty of this place is amazing! One has to remember its culture and the meaning of this place for locals and any Buddhist! It's not just a land mark, it is historical and has deep meaning for some. It certainly did for us and we are not Buddhist. Spent an hour here enjoying the peacefulness.... More

From the other reviews we thought this Big Buddha would be worth seeing, in a way it is, but there isn't much to the place, you can do it in under half an hour or so. Best time to do it is around 6pm in conjunction with the fisherman's village. In comparison to the big Buddha in Bangkok, its about... More

It wasn't the most impressive temple we saw in Thailand but it was still beautiful and well worth a visit. The size and construction is incredible. Very easy to get to from all parts of ko samui. Beautiful views from the top of Buddha. Buddha under some construction so a bit messy up the top with equipment. Make the time... More

Fantastic, climbing roughly 60 stairs to get to the top, beautiful views and also able to ring bells... At bottom of big budhha, u are able to give a donation and sign, brick, roof tiles for renovates, this meaning your name will be in that building, which i think is a cool thing... Theirs also a fruit and veg market... More
