WOW, ran-tong is a truly amazing place. My girlfriend and I had just been to Phuket and were appalled at how the elephants were being treated there. We came to Chiang Mai and our hotel staff suggested we do the ran-tong elephant training as we wanted to go to see elephants where they were well treated. We were told Ran-tong... More

Ran-Tong truly was a wonderful experience, one of the best experiences in my life. Anyone visiting Chiang Mai, thailand should definately put Ran-Tong as a must do on their itinerary, it should not be missed. Ran-tong provided elephants with a great home in which they were able to roam freely, the mahouts truly cared for these beautiful animals. They were... More

Elephants were well looked after the mahouts really cared for the elephants. It was a huge contrast to the elephants in phuket. These elephants looked well fed and happy. The atmosphere was great and my favourite part of the day was bathing the elephants in the waterfall, it was truly a memorable experience. My experience at Ran-Tong contradicts all the recent... Would not recommend Ran Tong. We are English backpackers, looked around most options, this seemed the best for fair treatment to elephants. Read reviews it seemed perfect and a reasonable price. Ended up being awful. 6/9 of the people in our group refused to take part and we left as soon as possible. 1. All of the elephants were kept... More

My review is in direct contrast to the recent negative reviews. I read them a couple times over because they are the complete opposite of my experience. There were just 3 of us on our excursion so I did not see all of the elephants however the elephants we rode appeared healthy (no open sores). We started by feeding the... More

We had lovely time, the elephants well treated well and the people working there were all local except for a guy from sweden. It was a great experience, we fed and wash the elephant.

I was informed that this camp was one of the better ones where the elephants were happy and treated fairly. This is not the case! While the mahouts will not use sticks or weapons in front of tourists, they do indeed beat the elephants in secret. I witnessed an incident where one mahout actually bit the baby elephant on its... So exciting animals, nice location, good staff, tasty food = amazing experience. In this camp to everyone, we had no problem and had a lot of fun. I Will never forget this day. Thanks a lot of mahout in this camp and their elephants. Elephant so cute.

So we are budget backpackers that couldn't afford the elephant nature sanctuary but thought we would love to go to see them feed them and play with them in the water in a humane environment which cares for these beautiful creatures. We checked a few places and read the reviews on here and thought it was ultimately positive so we... More
