Owner description: One of Bangkok’s best-kept secrets is Khlong Toey, a chaotic, sprawling food market not far from the city’s centre. It’s a travel photographer’s dream, packed with shouting market vendors offering live produce, fresh fruit and vegetables and cooked local dishes. Eye-opening and enthralling, it’s a great insight into how locals live – and to where your moo manow really comes from.

Daily fresh market every day 6:00 to midnight. This place is most inportant wet food market in Bangkok. You can buy fresh fish, raw meat and everything you nerd for cooking. Khong Toey Market is open every day.

If you want to witness a real thai market you should go visit this place. I would recommend to arrive early in the morning when it is at its busiest and full of people and more importantly fresh produce. Here you can find everything from flowers to seafood to animal intestines. Also live poultry. The smell can get quite overwhelming... More

Well I visited this amazing market in Jan 2014 it was a fab experience. I stayed at The Landmark hotel on Sukhumvite Road (very nice) I took the BTS Sky Train then the MRT underground, no problem. Well worth the trip if you want to see the real Bangkok Thailand. Proper gritty and earthy market. Small alleyways lots to see... More

Not much of what you'll see as a tourist in Bangkok is real from the perspective of a Thai person. I've lived here for 7 months and today was one of the first times I've felt like I'm shopping like a Thai person. It's super stinky because of the live chickens for sale but it's worth it.

I went here in the Mid Afternoon, it was still pretty busy, but not as busy as it would have been in the early morning when the locals visit for their daily grocery shopping. Khlong Toey is an excellent Farmers Market in the sense it is not a tourist spot, so what you see is real life in Bangkok. Most... More

Unlike the markets attached to tourist stops, this one had no vendors pressuring shoppers at all. Bustling and at times chaotic, but everyone seemed polite. Very few non-locals. Seemed to be a more accurate glimpse into the lives of the people of Bangkok.

I really love finding places like this. Sights and sounds and smells that will stay with you. I love to take pics of the locals in these environments. I got some fantastic shots here and the people were all friendly and accepting, although I don't speak their language. Really gives you a sense of a typical day in their lives.... More

real insight into non tourist bangkok. It is next to very smelly river and is huge and busy.. most food is live you'll see fish flapping off their trays onto the floor, frogs and crabs trying to escape their pens. Live geese ducks chickens. A great experience but we weren't that enthusiastic to buy or eat produce as found the... More

Khlong Toei is the market to go if you want to discover the local habits and avoid touristic cliches. To get the take the MRT to Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (closer to the market then Khlong Toei's) and walk to the intersection of Rama 4 with Rama 3. If you're using google maps ignore the marking they have as... More
