One of Bangkok’s best-kept secrets is Khlong Toey, a chaotic, sprawling food market not far from the city’s centre. It’s a travel photographer’s dream, packed with shouting market vendors offering live produce, fresh fruit and vegetables and cooked local dishes. Eye-opening and enthralling, it’s a great insight into how locals live – and to where your moo manow really comes from.

Great experience walking around this market for the locals. Easily accessible from the MRT. The products here can't be any fresher. You can find anything here from meat and fish to fruits and vegetables. Everything is so cheap too.

Variety, good prices and lots of fresh produce. That is part of what you will find and probably lots more. It's clean compared to the other markets I've seen. If you want to sample the Thai way of grocery shopping check it out. A must see if you like cooking or authentic ways of living. Take the mrt to klongh... More

Be warned, this is a chaotic and stinky affair. You will smell and get splashed by the fishes being sold. 10 mins at this place and you will need a long bath. Other than that still worth the visit to see how locals shop. There are some cheap fruits you can but here. You will get to see exotic food... More

Enjoyed going to this market, close to Sathorn, lots of pubic transport close by. Here, very few tourists, locals buy their meat and vegetables plus just about everything else for their daily needs. Best to go early in the morning or in the evening! Not fot the squeemish tourist, this is NOT a "beautified" market!

The reason why me and my boyfriend went to this market was because we watched an episode of bizarre foods on the travel channel! Well when we got there it was too real for me. The ground is wet with who knows what! It smells like raw pork raw animal. Do not wear sandals when you go there! There are... More

Live frogs in a net. Skinned frogs. Grasshoppers. Pig heads. Cat fish and eels wriggling in basins. All side by side with seafood, vegetables, spices and herbs. This is as local as you can get. And after seeing all of these makes you hungry, just take a short walk to a food stall just a few metres away. An absolutely... More

This is one of the markets where locals get their groceries and every thing else. Your flipflops, shoes, feet will get dirty. So you may consider wearing footwear that you can wash or throw away after. Go early morning to around noon. Take the MRT to Queen Sirikit station. As you exit, follow the signs for Khlong Toey Market. Upon... More

If you come to Thailand for a 5 star, luxurious experience, are afraid of a bit of chaos, and like your meat in plastic covered styrofoam, do not go. If, however, you want to see the real energy of a place, see where your food comes from, and change your attitude about personal space, please go! This market is the... More

A local wet market with really cheap prices. Fresh produce like vegetables, fruits, meat, seafood, and farm produce are all laid out for sale. Not too hygienic especially in the livestock section. There are stalls selling cooked food, curries and Thai delicacies. An interesting look at a local Thai market.
