Monkey temple is well worth a visit. The views of the Kathmandu Valley from the top - if it's a clear day - are great. More

I was here ~10 years ago and made a return visit in April 2012. My only question is - where are the monkeys? The place was full of monkeys before, there are far fewer now. Still beautiful, definitely a memorable site, but I'm left wondering what happened to all of the little primates. More

Swayambhunath stupa of Kathmandu is the oldest stapa of Nepal dated more than 2000 years old according to the Legend. Legend says once Kathmandu, itself was the big lake and the god of this stupa was self created in the lotus flower of this lake. It is just 4 K.m west of kathmandu, situated in the hillock from where one... More

has great views of kathmandu, as well as impressive stupas and temples. It was quiet when we went which made for easy viewing. More

The best time to visit "monkey temple" is sunset. You'll see monks and monks in training doing nightly prayers. Incense is burning, calming music can be heard in the distance, as well as Buddhist chanting. Make sure to check out the small pool where the monkeys play as well! They're amazingly human like! More

Swayambhunath stupa is located in the west of Kathmandu. We went there at the end of the afternoon. A great decision. Although the entrance is not attractive, not indicating a sight worth seeing, once you climbed the steep stairs amid the dirt and chaos, you will reach the top of the hill with a very beautiful stupa and surroundings. We... More

The temple is impressive, monkeys, snakes encounter on the way up. Great view of KTM, very old temple. Many hawkers selling and people begging. It is very different that other temples. It was very poor and the food offerings started to smell. I am glad I went but happy to leave. More

Apart from the stupa itself being exceptionally beautiful and having all the naughtly rhesus monkeys running around, the views of Kathmandu from up here is good enough reason to climb the several hundred stairs to get there (you can also drive if you wish but the staircase side is much more beautiful) More
