Our tour group went up in full sized tour buses. The cloud closed in as we ascended and we were wondering if we would be able to see anything, but as we approached Plaine des Sables, the cloud cover broke and the ash plain was revealed. After a quick photo stop there we negotiated the very potholed unsealed road across... More

This really is a fantastic day's hike and must be part of your vitas to Reunion if you want to see and experience something different and almost unworldly. This is a live and recently active volcano and you can see very recent activity and the impact is has had, especially right at the rim. You MUST take a guide or... More

It's a great place to visit but if you arrive at the Relais de Bellecombe and the mist if so thick that you cannot see the Volcano, it can be a little disappointing. We stayed there for about 10mn and were lucky enough to see the top of the Volcano and the small crater (for about 5mn). We did a... More

We stayed at the gite "Alicalapa-Tenon" the night before. We left at 2.30 am and the drive to Pas-de-bellecombe was a piece of cake. No traffic on the road so it took us only 35 mins to get there. Hike is accessible and takes 2h30 each way. I would recommend starting the walk as early as possible to avoid the... More

Bit of a hike (6+hours to be precise) but well worth it. Take sunscreen & snacks & a hoodie for the summit. We did it with a 12 year old & a 7 year old who also loved it :)

It is an amazing walk worth every step. You should count 2:30 each way. Ideally, you should leave early in the morning as clouds will likely rise in the afternoon. It is necessary to take a lot of water and sun cream. Proper hiking shoes highly recommended.

An absolute must when travelling to Réunion Island, conquering Piton de Fournaise, or 'Le Volcan', is such an unbelievable hike that it is quite hard to describe in words, it is such an incredible and a special place on Earth. Piton de Fournaise is one of the most active in the volcanoes in the world and fairly easily reachable. Here... More

While on the island this is defenetly a must. An incredible hike on what feels a completely different world. Just a few tips: the hike itself is not a very difficult one but it will take a few hours to get to the volcano's mouth. It is advisable to start very early (around dawn or thereabout) to avoid the intense... More

We did an tour with Vanille Excursions with the highlight at the Volcano. The landscape, craters, were breathe taking. Wish we could have experienced an eruption, but apparently it happens only about once a year, and the last eruption occurred in 2010. They last usually a few days, so it's difficult to plan your visit around the volcano (except for... More

...and we didn't even make it to the crater's edge! The rain gods were against us so we retreated half way up, but that didn't dispel the magic of this place. With swirling clouds and a blasted landscape, echoes of Tolkien and Mordor come to mind. A truly excellent experience. With the two descents / ascents, it does require some... More
