While on the island this is defenetly a must. An incredible hike on what feels a completely different world. Just a few tips: the hike itself is not a very difficult one but it will take a few hours to get to the volcano's mouth. It is advisable to start very early (around dawn or thereabout) to avoid the intense... More

We did an tour with Vanille Excursions with the highlight at the Volcano. The landscape, craters, were breathe taking. Wish we could have experienced an eruption, but apparently it happens only about once a year, and the last eruption occurred in 2010. They last usually a few days, so it's difficult to plan your visit around the volcano (except for... More

...and we didn't even make it to the crater's edge! The rain gods were against us so we retreated half way up, but that didn't dispel the magic of this place. With swirling clouds and a blasted landscape, echoes of Tolkien and Mordor come to mind. A truly excellent experience. With the two descents / ascents, it does require some... More

The Reunion island is like a paradise. In the morning you can swim and snorkel in the lagoon and in the afternoon climb the mountains ! Sur it is better to do the opposite, climb the mountains and the volcano in the morning and swil in the lagoon in the afternoon, because on the mountain after 10 or 11am the... More

I'm not fit so whilst this was not a difficult hike, it was by no means an easy hike! The return trip took 6 hours for me. There was no sun that day, in fact, it was cold and we were walking through clouds so there were lots of water droplets. However, I got severely sunburnt - only became apparent... More

A harder clime than I expected but well worth the effort. As you ascend the volcano you are treated to many stunning views and a fascinating volcanic landscape. It feels like walking on another planet. The weather can change very quickly, on the way up I encountered very strong sunshine (Sun screen required) followed by rain and then some mist... More

A thoroughly challenging climb, but was well worth it. My other half does not enjoy heights but still managed to do it. Remember to wear lots of sunscreen, take more than the average water on a hike, and sandwhiches, or whatever will keep you nourished. All in all, it took us five and half hours to complete. We wore walking... More

One of the most active volcanoes in the world, the Piton de la Fournaise offers some of the most incredible views of the island. The crater is enormous, the cooled lava spills impressive. Do not underestimate the hike, bring lots of water, sweaters and food, as the trek can be kinda tough. The weather is usually clear in the morning,... More

This was the first visit to Reunion and not the last either. Going back February 2013, can't wait for the next time. Incredible sights, friendly people, clean streets and great pubs.
