Erupting Volcano! Stunning!

Going to this place is a whole day trip and a very exciting one! Once there, you feel like you're waling above the clouds. It's super beautiful!

We have seen a few volcanoes, but never have we been fortunate enough to see an erupting one. It was most exciting. Obviously we were unable to trek as close as normal, but my goodness! Loved the arid landscape, which you can also see in various parts of the island. These are sign posted according to major eruptions. Must see!... More

We were lucky enough to visit during an eruption. Went up in the evening 4:30pm, for the sunset, then drove back home. Highly recommended, one of the most remarkable landmark, especially when the lights are on

Make an effort, get up early when the weather forecast is favourable. The drive up is an attraction itself!

Everything on Reunion is very special. We spent there only 10 days and it felt like two months. Piton de Fournaise is very different to the rest of the island. Still beautiful but very cold, windy, almost moonland but really wort to visit.

If you are lucky enough to be in Reunion Island during an eruption of 'Le Piton de la Fournaise', you must visit it. Actually... you must visit it anyway! It is a moon-like landscape, fantastic for hiking, fantastic scenery. You need to pack very warm clothes if you are walking at night to reach a good spot to watch the... More

A fabulous hike, quite tough if you aren't acclimatised or used to hiking but bearable if you are. Five hundred steps take you down into the outer crater, a trail of white dots lead you across the inner caldera and the up and around the cone for what seems like forever. It is worth getting up early to get to... More

Very spectacular views, moon landscapes, but the crater was in the clouds the day we visited. So you must be lucky sometimes. The week after our visit there was an eruption!! Must do when you go to Reunion.

Prepare for a longish drive from St Denis (+-1hr). The lunar landscape, spectacular cliffs and solidified lava flows will take your breath away. There is a little coffee shop providing sandwiches and drinks. If you plan on walking make sure you have decent shoes as the rocks formed from lava can be very sharp. Also take sun protection and a... More

Great views of the island has you drive up to the volcano, and lovely places to stop and take good pictures. The lunar landscape of this place is truly something to see - be careful of weather changes, they can happen really quickly without warning.
