Great trip! we went with jeeps and the road was very good! the guide was telling us the story of the last eruption and how the volcano is one of the most visited sites. Go for it!

I did the treck in one day up and down from cilaos . The starting point for the route is a parking lot around 4 km from our hotel/hotel des neiges/ .I would definitely recommend to go there by car so you do not waste time and energy to walk on the tarmack.

Dont go on a helicopter trip unless they can take you over the volcano as sometimes its covered in cloud.The craters can easily be seen by driving to Cilaos and the crater edge at Maido near St Paul.Its a spectacular view and a lot less noisy ,expensive and far better than the quite tiny helicopter windows.Drive to piton Maido and...
