Beautiful trek

We did the two days trek to Marla with the overnight sleep in the village. It was definitely one of my most beautiful trek in my life. Fully recommending.

There are over 100 micro-climates on Reunion. So the vegetation, and geolgocial formations are also very varied. The road from Saint Gilles to Maido, the way to Mafate is full of beautiful flowers, small charming villages, a Tamarin forest with totally different vegetation, volcanic rock formations and just plain hold- your- breath beautiful vistas! Like all the "cirque" of the... More

Absolutely fabulous multi day hike with plenty of route options. Good indoor accommodation along the way mostly with dinner and breakfast options so no need to carry stove / evening meals etc. Rain forest, cloud forest, enchanted forest, gigantic spiders, bird life, flowers, well marked trails (take a map though). Reasonable bus network at various points so you can hike... More

A beautiful volcanic crater accessible only by foot, this spectacular location will entrance you. Though not quite as large as Haleakala on Maui, this caldera has small and picturesque villages scattered throughout. It is a long and difficult hike down from the Maido viewpoint. The easier route is from Cilaos. Plan on 5-6 hours from Maido. Bring plenty of supplies... More

We started our 8 day trek of the 3 cirques in Cilaos, climbing col de Taïbit on our first day to get to Marla. It was worth the effort, descending into the crater it became obvious that the scenery the next three days would be AMAZING. From Marla we took off to Roche Plate on day 2, and from thereon... More

We spent two days hiking within the Cirque de Mafate. We left on the first day from the parking lot of Col des Boeufs, walking up to Marla through La Nouvelle. We slept at Marla and went all the way back to Col des Boeufs from there on our second day. Amazing views and precious memories! This hiking experience is... More

The crater of Mofate is cut cut off from the outside world with the only way down to the village is by foot or by helicopter. We drove by car to the outskirts of Mofate and started our descent on foot. I wore only trainers which where light and airy. You will see many lovely views and interesting foliage in... More

I walked from Col de Boeufs to Piton de la Fournaise in 6 days. The Bureau de Tourisme in Saint Denis helped me book the accommodation, which was very helpful. It was quite a long and sometimes steep way, but I enjoyed every step. The views really are spectacular and you never get bored of the changing landscape. The treks... More

I recommend to carefully plan your hike in Mafate : It's not easy, and difficult to get to you if needed... So good shoes, a good map, and a good sense of your own capacities under those tropical conditions (heat, humidity, sun, ...) Other than that, a whole "Cirque" is waiting for you and Mafate is truly a gem !... More
