If you're from Europe then this is just a church. However, if you are not 'churched out' from other places then this lovely little church is worth a visit. It is small but has some pretty stained glass windows. Services are still held - albeit in German, where few people speak German anymore. You will probably be urged to place... More

The historic church is situated just outside the main city centre streets. It strikes as imposing from the outside and is traditionally plain Lutheran inside. However most of the information and literature is in German with only on or two leaflets in England and no other languages.

Make the effort to see inside and enjoy Windhoek's most recognisable 'postcard' image, but afterwards take the time to also visit many of the other fabulous sites that are very nearby (including the famous Tintenpalast - the Palace of Ink - and now the Namibian parliament, the Alte Feste - Old Fort, the Reiter Denkmal statue - Equestrian Memorial, and... The church is a landmark in central Windhoek. Not particularly spectacular in itself but as a piece in the jigsaw of German colonial rule it is worth visiting. Services are still conducted in German 100 years after their time in control of the country was ended.

After days in the desert, I wanted to simply pray my rosary before flying home. This beautiful church on the top of the hill overlooking Windhoek was the perfect place to center and reflect on such a wonderful trip.

I enjoy old, historical buildings and stories that are "locked up" in its walls. Christuskirche is definitely a worth-seeing Windhoek attraction, especially, because Namibia doesn't have too many classical buildings. At the church, I particularly liked quiet and meditative atmosphere even thou the building is situated right in the heart of the town. While visiting church, I was allowed to... More

This quaint church is probably the most photographed building in Namibia, and I'm sure that every visitor to the capital city, Windhoek, has at least one photograph of the spire on their camera. The Christus Kirche was designed by Gottlieb Redecker, a German government architect, who drew up the first designs in 1900 and 1901. The final plans weren't completed... More

More beautiful from outside than inside. In Belgium it would be just a normal church, where no tourist would go, but due too the location on a hill it makes it a little bit special.

A fellow in the church was most helpful and very knowledgeable and we were given all the history about the church and the earlier German community. He also spoke German, Afrikaans and English.

It's pretty - that's about it. Best thing is it is around the corner from the Parliamentary Gardens which are gorgeous and worth strolling a little further to see.
