I've been a couple of times, once just on a day trip and once camping overnight. The scenery is beautiful and there is hardly anybody there. The first time we just saw hippos, the second a couple of elephants in the distance as well as the hippos and tons of birds. Some friends have been on day trips/ overnight trips...

The Reserve doesn't have the animal concentration that Kruger has, but on Maputo's doorstep it is a great escape to see Hippos and Elephants. Not the easiest place to go with a guide, Mozaic Travel is one of the only tour operators in Mozambique who offer day trips

This is one of the best attractions you can get in Mozambique. You can see how elephants live and interact with each other, nature at it's best... It's worth a vist.

I worked in community forestry, and this reserves animal stocks had dramatic decrease - there were plans to restock but so I am tending to list it average to very good - Great scenic beaches, lagoons. If some one is in love with wilderness, grass lands etc and has good 4x4 and knows to drive safely in sand and not...

The park is incredible and I have been there many times but it needs attention and money and time. You will not see much. Off chance of elephants at a distance and the hippos and crocs are fairly easy to see. Maybe some antelopes too and the birdlife is really wonderful - I would say a birders paradise.
Take Care!...

Although getting there is already an adventure, riding through is more than that!!! Wonderful views, amazing beaches, miles and miles of sandy beaches, only for you!! Incredibly beautiful!!
You can have the chance of seeing hippos, elephants, monkeys, all over!! walking free along the park. If you have chance and time, get a 4x4 and go there!! You wont regret!!

This is probably one of the closest protected areas to Maputo. So if you are in a hurry this is a good choice. We have seen loads of elephants and a couple of rhinos.

Very exciting trip. Magnificent scenery and the trip across by Ferry was a wonderful, experience. Total cultural shock at times. From Catembe to the Elephant Reserve you could see the simple life the people live, but there was no lack of happiness.
Final destination was Ponta Malangane here we experienced diving to our hearts content.
There wa so much to...

Very boring reserve. Animals nothing compared to the nearby parks across the border.
Coastline is nice though. Good beaches, but then Mozambique has 100's of km of great beaches.
So, there are a few lakes, with a few hippos, crocks and then of course a very small elephant population. Also a bushbuck here and there, and maybe an impala or two....
