The train station, which only starts after 11pm, is the best bar and dance venue I have been too in the world. The stage, an active railway platform, with lights and music supplied by a DJ. The people, all the beautiful people of Maputo. It really only started to crank up at 2am, well worth a visit. More

I'd read that Newsweek listed Caminho de Ferro de Mocambique (CFM) as one of the top ten most beautiful train stations in the world, and I can say that it truly is beautiful. We visited during the day and found a small bar, which had signs for a 340ml show that weekend. We came back on Saturday night for one... More

We stopped here briefly after having heard that this place is a landmark and warranted a visit. The train station is located at the bottom end of town and is an old remnant of what life must have been like back in Maputo’s hey-day. The restaurant is nice and cozy and the food is ok..not amazing, just ok, and the... More

Some say the the CFM in Maputo was built by Eiffel and other say by a group of Portuguese, regardless the station is one of the most impressive buildings in Maputo and it is being restored to include a museum! It also houses a Bar for you party folks, best night to go Friday and it has a small shop... More

Most railway stations of this vintage have long since been torn down. Somehow, this has managed to survive and has a nice restaurant right on the platform with amazing Portuguese tile and a classic bar. Go for lunch and imagine a bygone era of steam trains chugging into the station!! More

Apart from being the site where Blood Diamonds was filmed, it has a number of old carraiges on display and the architecture is of the the few remaining sites of colonial times. But be wary of curio sellers who can be very pushy. Great photo ops More

Great for railway enthusiasts. Well restored steam-era station, more than a century old, with a couple of lovely old engines. But watch out for the police, who shook me down in the street between the station and the docks! More

My 2nd trip to the station, decided to take a work mate to see it on a business trip to Maputo. Designed between 1900 and 1914 it is an amazing example of colonial design that has survived the ravages of wars and decay in a growing bustling city. I believe the station still operates and has a famous jazz bar... More
