This is an intriguing piece of History still maintained and currently displays an art show of sorts! You will love the views of the bay as well as all the remnants of a war long ago fought! The Portuguese are famous for protecting their water fronts and this forts placement allowed the Portuguese to do just that for many years!!... More

This small fort in Maputo's downtown is often used for events and markets. It has a collection of old cannons and not much more. It once housed a great exhibit of photos that demonstrated how beautiful a city Maputo was in the 1950s but unfortunately that is no longer there making the stopover at this small fort a very quick... Only worth a visit if you have extra time to kill in Maputo - rather spend the time walking the streets or sipping beer alomg the marginal or consuming vast quantities of prawns at the fish market. Museum doesn't have any guides, or information in English for visitors. A quick 10 minute walk through. More

Quite boring - there wasn't anyone to show us around - the fort does not have much to offer in terms of artifacts etc. More

Dusty museum, empty shelves. No info in English! The building itself is OK, although some of the renovation is probably an architectural crime. More

As visitors to Mozambique, we were delighted by some of the Iberian influences the locals display. They take a siesta, sometimes even sleeping under trees in the park. They drink coffee and speak good Portuguese. This does not mean, however, that the former colonial overlords are well-regarded. Quite the opposite. Independence was won only by a long, bitter bush war... More
