Every Saturday from March to December, the thoroughbred horses race at Champ de Mars, the second oldest race track in the Southern Hemisphere and the second oldest track in the world. Inexpensive entry (men 175Rps - women free). Dress appropriately ... men long pants (no shorts-no flip-flops); women dress or nice pants. Ask at the info center inside to use... More

The Champ de Mars Racecourse is one of the oldest racecourse in the world (1812). The atmosphere was ecstatic and a great way to spend an afternoon.

We came here for the day whilst staying in flic en flac. It's about 45 min drive from flic en flac so we hired a driver to take us and drives us back. He ended up spending the day at the races with us and even managed to get a few winners. Beer is cheaper than water, what mire can... More

If you're any way into racing you need to experience racing in Mauritius. Super day out. Mauritians are passionate about racing and you are easily swept along by their enthusiasm. Myself and my boyfriend got a taxi from our resort in trou aux biches to the racecourse. Ladies are free into the grandstand area and about €5 for men. Once... More

We had a great time at Champs de Mars. The atmosphere was electric and it was scenic as well. Nice snacks were provided along with local foods. A great way to mingle with the locals.

You can get a real taste of the Mauritian culture. So many locals mingling and socialising together. Really interesting to see this. And as the horses approach the finish line, wow, the energy and excitement was fantastic. Also an opportunity to try authentic local foods. They're certainly not the healthiest, but hey, how often will you get the opportunity to... More

We had a fabulous day @Champs de Mars. Admittedly we were there as guests of one of the horse trainers families. The atmosphere was magnificent and you get to experience on of Mauritius' greatest passions, betting.

We love going to the races back home so thought we would try it out! Did some research and decided not to book the £200 each for the crown lodge day, instead risk it and go it alone! Best thing we could have hoped for, had one of the hotel taxi's take us for the day at a cost of... More
