Tsimbazaza zoo is mainly for those tourists who cannot go outside of Antananarivo for several reason. You expect to have a glimpse of Madagascar fabulous nature. And what you see is a poorly maintained zoo with badly nourished animals. More

we went here on our last afternoon of our stay in Tana. we didn't have time at all to see lemurs kin their natural habitat so we opted to go to the zoo. entrance was 4x more expensive than what they charge for locals. i loved the little lake in the middle. my favorite parts are the enormous turtles and... they are trying, but it is a zoo in a developing world capital city so dont go with high expectations. A pleasant way to spend an afternoon until you get to the Fossa enclosure and see the miserable cats, but likely this is the only way you will see them!! More

We visited the zoo at the end of a month trip to Madagascar. Our main reason for going was the nocturnal lemur house, we were really hoping to catch a glimpse of the elusive aye-aye. Unfortunately, we were informed that the nocturnal lemur house will be closed for the next year for repairs. No aye-ayes for us. Be aware that... More

By western standards some of the cages are a bit small but the zoo is definitely improving (we visited in 2004) and there are some interesting exhibits, including the breeding aye aye. Worth supporting this well intentioned zoo. More

Since we didn't see fosa in the wild we went to see one at the zoo. We actually saw three at this zoo. Two were in a horrific small wire cage. The other was pacing in a circle in a larger cage with some other features than a concrete floor. Zoo workers follow you and try to extract money for... More

It has to be said, the parc is nice... a lot of green and exotic trees and relatively quiet in comparisson to the rest of the dirty and noisy town.. in that sense it's worth a visit. Also some of the animals have space and live in good conditions, but others live in very bad conditions things i have only... More

I was prepared for seeing poor conditions at this zoo but was pleasantly surprised by the gardens and enclosures in the zoo grounds. They have an excellent collection of Madagascan wildlife and the only fossas I saw on my trip was in the zoo - but it was worth it for that. I have certainly seen worse conditions in zoos... More
