The reserve offers a closer encounter with some of The Gambias more illusive wildlife, fab` for all bird watching,in the morn and evening.Adventurous bumpy sandy tracks getting there and daunting sign posting, best way is go for a sensible wander unless looking for fancier hobbies-then hire a guide, the wildlife is natural and well camoflaged. If tipping, give direct to office for animals feed etc... Don`t miss this park on your trip to The Gambia-so much fun. The monkeys are very friendly-not vicious at all. They climb up you, sit on your shoulders etc as you feed them monkey nuts. So many monkeys! Book the trip with the RSPB men on Bakau beach (under white umbrella by Calypso Restaurant) if you want to enjoy spotting... More

We spent about an hour here but overall were rather dissapointed, a nice walk through the forest, a couple of monkeys, and some sleeping hyenas, not much else! More

Such a beautiful place to spend some time. We went in the early morning and only saw one other couple for the majority of the time we were there. However, on our way back out there were huge groups arriving. I would definately recommend going independantly with your own guide rather then with a tour company in a large group.... More

My guide, Francis Gomez, led me through the reserve pointing out the local birdlife. Within minutes we had seen a dozen or more species I'd never seen before and over the three hours I was there, he was helpful, friendly and informative. He helped me see the species unique to the site which I probably would have missed without him.... More

personally I was dissappointed, I did not see any wildlife except the caged ones and all i got was hassle from people trying to sell me woodcarvings. I found it boring an not as advertised. I would say go out and look around yourself and you see more but don,t rely on local bumsters to show you. More

We arrived at Abuko having heard and read quite a lot about it. It is better to come here early in the morning, not around 11am like we did since most of the animals are sheltering from the heat and crocodiles are swimming closer to the bottom of the pond. The few monkeys we saw were not scared of humans,... More

We had a lovely time in Abuko, our guide was great and we saw loads of birds and monkeys... and even a snake! The one bad point is the awful 'zoo' in the middle where they house baboons, hyenas and turtles. It absolutely stinks and the animals are totally miserable. I refused to give any money for that. What a shame this reserve has been allowed to go to rack and ruin. Everything very shabby. We were told that it used to be a wonderful place when it was first set up. We saw very little and were very disappointed. More
