We visited here on a Sunday and it was packed- so much so that I was quite nervous about how many people were milling around. The lions all looked so sad. The zoo would benefit from some renovation.

6 Lions stuck in small cages, few other animals that will be happier in wildlife. Disappointed about this small zoo in the center of the polluted Addis.

I have been told that the lions which you will see at Lion Zoo, are genetically different form any lion you can find in the world. There are 20 of them and they have been treated and kept by HIM Haile Silassie I. You will enjoy if you visit this place. It is only 4 mins walking distance form the... More

We stopped by here on a whim between the local museums. Entrance is about 20 Birr (around a dollar) and the zoo itself is a bit on the tiny side. The best thing I can say here is that the title is an accurate description of the locale, but the overall experience was a bit disappointing. As others have pointed... More

Visited the zoo with my young daughter. it was great for her to visit the lions, but the conditions are very bad. People taunt the animals by throwing things at the cages. The animals exhibit many stress behaviors and seem is poor shape. Happy we got to see black maned lions, but sad the conditions had to be so poor.

This is small zoo, and a typical Third World zoo. Not too clean, and the conditions in which the animals are kept are not too good.

Would not recommend. There are many other places you can visit that will be worth your time and prevent the heartbreak of seeing these majestic beasts caged up. If you desire to see animals it's best to seek them out in their natural habitat... Not in the conditions they are being subjected to at this 'Lion Zoo'.

A couple of old lions and some birds !! Hardly a zoo. It is all a bit hickldy-pickldy, but it is something to do for an hour. Warning, they charge extra for foreigners and for camera !! So hide it in your bag !

It was fun to see the lions, but their space is a bit cramped. It is a popular place though. Many people were there when we visited.

As an animal lover, i was hoping for the best, but this place is horrible. Apart from the fact that locals pay 2 bir and foreigners pay 20 bir to get in, this place should be closed down and the animals set free instantly. The locals do not seem to know how to treat animals properly; thrash gets thrown in... More
