Sad place for lions

Just a very sad place to see lions. The grounds have been landscaped so if you want a place to see flowers, it is quite nice, but the lions and their cages are old and barren. I... read more

I say average as not a lover of Zoo's. Saying that it was 'better' than I thought it would be, all said and done the Lions are amazing even though their living conditions must be upgraded - looking forward to and fully support plans for new location and improved living conditions for these unique Lions.

The Lion zoo is in need of a lot of improvement, I understand that a new one is being built, and look forward to seeing this on a return trip to Addis, the lions are a must see not only because of their rare breed but also because of their history within the imperial households of the Solomonic dynasty

The zoo is not that big, and the main thing they sell to visitor here is the lion. somehow it's good to visit the zoo but if you only have short time in Addis Ababa better to visit another place which more attractive (but it is really depend on what exactly you interesting to).

Don't go. The conditions in which the animals have to live are atrocious. The dik dik was friendly. The lions impressive. The baboon was very sad and alone.

Just a very sad place to see lions. The grounds have been landscaped so if you want a place to see flowers, it is quite nice, but the lions and their cages are old and barren. I felt bad for the lions. Such magnificent creatures in such horrible spaces. There really isn't much here. The hawkers make a strong pitch... More

It was good but when we were paying to get in they looked at my mom and said shes American and she had to pay more than the rest of us. I guess that's because me my sister and my brother are African american and my dads Ethiopian. But other than that it was good

Dingy cages, hardly any animals ; the place is completely run down and horribly maintained. Felt really sorry for the Animals. Would suggest this zoo should be shut down.

Having been to San Diego zoo which in my opinion is the best in the world, visiting Addis Ababa zoo was a shock. All this has are a few deer, a few lions in ridiculously small enclosures, a heron, a duck and an eagle in a horribly tiny cage. The entire zoo can be completed in 5 minutes. Local visitors... More

Approximately five male lions and two females are in relatively small cages in this small zoo. There are also a few monkeys and a few indigenous deer and tortoises lazing around. Foreign adults are 20 bir; foreign children are 10 bir. There is a 20 bir charge to carry a camera in and a 100 bir charge to take in... More
