Pendjari Park in Benin was my first visit to Africa. As a respite from the rigors of The Peace Corps, my son accompanied me. We stayed one night in Nati at the Tata Samba hotel. However, if one wants easy access to the park, stay at the rather shabby but acceptable hotel (not the lodge) and you are right there... More

Our experience in the Pendjari National Park was absolutely fantastic! However, we believe the key to a really good experience is by obtaining a really good guide! We feel we would not have seen half of the animals without our guide. Alfred, the owner of Camp Numi outside of the Park, recommended a couple of guides and helped us secure... More

A true gem in an area where wildlife and natural areas are rapidly disappearing. I've been twice, and both times have been wonderful - tons of elephants and ruminants, hippos, crocs, baboons and monkeys, warthogs, a honey badger, an small cat whose name I forget, 2 hyenas, and 11 lions (4 lionesses the first time, and 2 males, 4 females,... I have been on several safaris in Africa (S. Africa, Uganda) and never have I been able to get as close to lions as at Parc Pendjari. For over an hour we watched them mate, eat a buffalo they had killed and then sit nuzzling each other, nose to nose. It was amazing! In all, there were eight lions circling... More

This is our first safari experience, hence we might be overexcited about Pendjari, but I think it is really worth a visit. Even during Christmas holidays there were not too many tourists, so it is very tranquil and quiet with lots of opportunities to see the wildlife. we managed to spot lions, elephants, crocodiles, monkeys, countless "gazelles" and a lot... We stayed in the park for 3 nights at the Pendjari Lodge. After getting the park experience, I can only say that 1 week is minimum time that you should spend in Pendjari park. It's a great place to take your time off, relax and get to know the nature as well as the wide spectrum of wildlife. Super recommended.

We spent 2 days and nights in the Pendjari hotel and park in February 2013. In only 2 days, we saw many elephants, buffalos, baboons, warthogs, antelopes, lots of birds, hippo's and crocodiles in this beautiful park. Our guide even managed to find us some lions, which are not so abundantly present. We saw a couple drive in the park... More

We were excited to visit Pendjari and compare it with other parks we have been to in Africa. We were extremely disappointed. We believe they must have poaching there as the game is very nervous. The park is surrounded by "transition" zones where hunting is allowed/encouraged. We did not see any fences between the park and the zones. We have... More

Pendjari was very interesting! We saw all sorts of animals. Our guide was less than spectacularly helpful, but would answer questions if asked. I don't think he spoke much English, so a non French speaker might struggle to get a guide who can communicate. This was our first experience in an African game park so can't really compare it to... We've been to Pendjari many times, and we continue to go back. It's certainly more rugged and less developed than the parks we visited in East Africa, but it preserved the feeling of being in the wild, and in the animals' territory better than said parks as well. The hotel within the park is rather bare, but fine, and the... More
