This is not only a well-preserved archaeological site but one of the most beautiful in northern Africa with Timgad in Algeria. Built on a hill, the view over the valley and the hillside is absolutely stunning. Going there at spring time is a real treat. More

Fabulous Roman city ruins, in beautiful location. Make sure you take your own guide book and map though. I took 2 hrs and was pretty quick about it; most people I think may want 3 or more. if you use the entrance via New Dougga, its a bit of an uphill walk to get to the ruins; the other entrance,... I love Roman ruins and I´ve visited lots of them in many countries. Dougga is not big. Don´t expect a huge Temple or well preserved streets, like in Pompei. But it is unique. You will get the feeling of what it was like living in a small village atop of hill (now in the middle of the wilderness), with a... More

The site is built on top of a hill and dominates the fertile valley below. It is a World Heritage Site and has been described as the best preserved small town in Northern Africa. It has had a long history of settlement from the 4thC BC when it was under the control of Carthage. By the 2ndC it was the... More

I am late writing this review of our January 2011 trip, but I wanted to add my vote to this being the most fantastic site around Tunis (along with the Bardo Museum). What made our one day personal tour from Tunis to Dougga especially great was our guide, Mr. Belghith from Atlantis Voyages tours. He was trained as an archeologist,... More

Off the beaten track, Dougga (Thugga), a Libyo-Punic town offers one of the best opportunities to imagine life as it was in ancient times. The aqueduct, houses, amphitheater, temples, etc... are wonderful. Most of the artifacts and mosaics are preserved in the Bardo Museum, Tunis, but they have left enough mosaics on the floors of houses to have an idea... More

A wonderful place to visit. At the time of my visit, yesterday, there was absolutely no-one there so you had an amazing experience of wandering these ancient ruin in total solitude. This is the best preserved Roman ruin in North Africa. It is surrounded by fertile fields and olive groves. Simply breath-taking. More
