Charming main-street. There’s a little tea/coffee house towards the Place de Paris end of the main street that was lovely. I also found a fantastic antiques shop next to the Mosque. The owner is called Youssef, and he has a beautiful roof-top garden and view of the Mosque. Try to visit a mansion (like the former residence of the Beys)... More

I love walking through the Medina. There is a bit of everything, inexpensive gifts for family and friends, gold jewelry, hats, and sweats. I love the perfumes. Exotic fragrances that form the basis of many high-end french perfumes but at great prices. I felt very comfortable walking on my own and enjoyed many cups of tea offered by shop owners... More

An amazing array of interesting things to buy that you can bargain for. Many little food stops within the medina. More

Tunisa was very interesting , we went the day before elections. While it can be a bit scarey the tour was great. Lots of history here. More

I was in the Medina in the second week of September WITH A TOUR GROUP. Dont know that I would go by myself, although it may be totally safe to do so. There was no unrest that we encountered anywhere nearby, but there were troops with machine guns near all the entrances and exits we used. We came out near... More

I loved walking around the Medina and spent several hours exploring, on several different occasions. Make sure you wear flat shoes – the walkways are made of uneven stone, and even with flat shoes, you have to be careful where you are walking. There are many beautiful doorways to see, interesting little alleyways, and of course the various goods for... More

At first the Tunis Medina may seem overwhelming and to some even off-putting. It's important to explore beyond the tourist section. The streets on the left cater to tourists and the streets to the right cater to natives. On the right you can explore the food and spice market which is amazing. In addition, there is a flea market that... More

The medina is quite diverse, ranging from quiet asphalt lanes in the northern section to the cramped cacaphony of the cobblestoned souqs, and there should be something for everyone. You will most likely arrive at the Bab el Bhar (sea gate)/ porte de france, a gigantic freestanding arched gate knocked out of the medina wall by the french, leaving place... More

If you come by plane, in the airport go to the tourist bureau downstairs and get a brochure for the Medina for what to see. Like in any souk, don't stop too long, and learn to say no and just walk your way, if you show interest, stay distant in your behaviour. My wife and I visited in the past... More
