As many people do we tacked a visit to Jozani Forest onto a transfer trip from one location to another - actually Kendwa to Stonetown. Not really on the way, but we had heard it was good and the detour was 100% worthwhiile. The Forest is part of the Tanzania National Park network and so all the fees, guides, etc... More

The Mangrove Forest in Jozani itself is amazing, liked the cut path through the Mangrove Forest on stilts leading further into the forest which is really submerged by the see to a point at high tide, the picnic tables looked unused, they should put up more facilities for sleep over guests perhaps close to the forest, the air is clean... This forest holds an indigenous population of red colobus monkeys and a smaller population of Sikes monkeys or blue monkeys. As I love monkeys it was a must do visit for us. You are greeted at the visitor center and pay a small fee and get a guide. The guide then takes you on a walk to where the monkeys... More

Even if you come to Jozani Forest with your own hired guide you will have to pay and receive a park guide anyhow. The national forest guides are knowledgeable and informative and will make sure you have a lot of photo opportunities to take pictures of the famous red colobus monkeys known by other local name poison monkeys. First part... More

Hasan was our local guide that the park. It was amazing what he could spot while just walking. It took him less than 10 minutes to place us in the middle of a family of monkeys. You get very very close as the monkeys are not shy. We continued with a short trip on the nature trail and a walk... More

After being on safari for over a week, my husband wasn't too keen on going to see a few monkeys. But after a short walk in the beautiful mangrove forest, we were surrounded by dozens of monkeys. A playful baby monkey stayed down to chase us around, swinging from branch to branch and jumping on our shoulders and crawling up... More

Monkeys you'll definitely see and near. Also interesting small and bid insects and nice trees. Nice place for 1-2 hours visit and a small contribution to local economy. More

For a mere $4 (US) you can get a guided tour of the forest. See ALOT of the rare Red Colobus monkeys up close. They really don't care how close you are to them. Not afraid at all. They are very cute and fun to watch. Also see the mangrove forest and the redwood forest. The forest is right in... More

The Red Colobus monkey is unique to Zanzibar, and here on one side of the road the trees are younger and shorter so you can see the monkeys, as they are used to people visiting. On the other side of the road, in the older forest, huge mahogany trees grow high and the Colubus live at the top where the... More

My husband and I visited Zanzibar after a wonderful safari in Kenya and Tanzania,we spent a magical 2 hours guided walk in the Zojani Forest with 2 people we had met on our safari. This was 5 years ago,but we all found Zanzibar to be a beautiful, unspoilt tropical paradise. The people who live around the forest are the guardians of... More
