Beautiful unspoilt island approx 20mins from Slipway dar es salaam We went there for a day trip and were amazed at the peacefulness and tranquility on arrival We had a couple of hours swimming and snorkling when the heavens opened and a fabulous thunder / electrical storm hit the island We took refuge in the 'Cafe' which had a large... First visited in 1960's as was then called Honeymoon Island in pre independence days, Even now it is such a restful and romantic island with great our white sandy beach and is. Must if you want to visit a dream Island that is still unspoilt

Well Just visited recently with a group of friends, its a 30mins ride from Slipway the perfect time go is after 10:30am and come back time after 3:00pm. The things we hated is as soon we got off from the boat they brought the menu for the hut and sunbed. Single hut 5,000 and each sunbed 2,000. My advice to... More

Lovely to go to. Try and not go en masse though. We went out on the hobie - and it id really tranquil. White sands, Turquoise water. Quite pricey though and there are Tourism Board fees as this is seen as a tourist hot-spot

We took the boat out to Bongoyo on a Thursday. It was only me and my kids. Efficient and prompt service from the end of the pier at Slipway (do make sure you buy the ticket from the counter closest to the pier, because there are three counters, and only one sells marine park tickets). You take a small boat... More

A key point that needs to be understood when reading this post: the end of Slipway has two boat services. One is called Asmara and the other one is run by Sylvester. Sylvester has run his service much longer and he's also the one that sells the Marine Park tickets. Use Sylvester; DO NOT use Asmara. I've visited Bongoyo a... More

Just a 20 minutes boat trip outside the city center (from the Slipway on Msasani Peninsular) you'll find a fantastic Robinson Crusoe Island. To swim from the sand bank is a great experience. On a week day you can be amost alone here, on weekends it is usually more crowdy. A small and primitive retaurant serve the catch of the... More

The small Place served cheap, chilled beer and a very good grilled lobster. They tried to make us pay for chairs (which fell apart) and sun roof, but without success.

A small island, with nothing remarkable to comment on. You can hire or bring snorkeling gear at the site, and swim out to view the coral reefs and fish. It is possible to hire a tent for overnight stays. There is a small restaurant at the island, where you can buy refreshments and meals, most generally fish. You might consider... More

The great thing about Bongoyo is how easy it is to get to, unlike many of the other beaches around Dar es Salaam, which involve a car ride. It is an extremely pretty and relaxing place and makes a perfect day trip from the city. The ferry leaves from the Slipway, first you transfer into a small motor boat and... More
