Visited Kaole ruins nearby. The museum has a good collection of old photographs showing the cultural influence of the arab and indians. Interesting were the books that were handwritten in arabic but read as kiswahili. The architecture same as the one in Zanzibar stone town, old pangani and mombasa. The beach is swimmable but cannot beat what Zanzibar has to... More

When the local guide takes you through, listen intently, as it will almost take you back 300 years ago, when a huge tidal wave came and submerged this area. A SUPER HUGE BANYAN TREE stares at you with an eerie feeling, making you wonder, what went on beneath or on top of this tree and whether it is really 400... More

Bagamoyo is rich in history and hours can be spent taking in daily life along the shore. The fishing dhows come in with their catch that is laid out on the beach for local buyers, nets are being mended and dhows are being prepared for trips out to Zanzibar and beyond. The mix of cultures of Bagamoyo represent the history... More

I recommand to visit Bagamoyo. We took a bus from Dar and about 1 hr later we arrived Bagamoyo. It's easy to go on your own in Bagamoyo, but good to have a guide to show and tell you about the history and ruins More

We went to Kaole and Bagamoyo for half a day from Lazy Lagoon. The first stop was the ancient town of Kaole from the Shiraz period. There we had a look at the ancient ruins of a mosque and a number of graves. After that we went to Bagamoyo that took over after Kaole was abandoned. Bagamoyo was the capital... More
