We went to the night market at Jemaa el Fna every night to eat during our stay in Marrakech. I loved the relaxed atmosphere and the variety of food. The food is served in small portions and you can order like tapas. There was a huge variety of food. The bill for two people was around £10. There are also... More

Dusty, dirty, stank of urine and feces. Had an allergic reaction every time we went into the old town etc.

I know it is apart of the culture of marrakech but I found it quite difficult watching monkeys and there keepers and snake charmers, it seemed wrong.

Just to add a little more information to these reviews (good and not so good) is the fact that on the morning and afternoon of Eid el Kabir, aka le fete de mouton, falling on November 6th this year (2011), Djemma el Fna is all but deserted. A very strange sight to behold, especially with a few disorientated visitors wondering... More

I have mixed feelings about Djema El Fna. I really enjoyed the buzz in the square and loved that it was so different from Europe and America. It really is a memorable place. Despite this I think that it is absolutely disgraceful that thugs are allowed bully and intimidate tourists here. If a tourist happens to take a picture of the... More

Best to go straight to the terrace of the Cafe de France and view it from above, where the theatre of the street is provided day and night. Beware catching anyone's eye as everyone is out to make a fast buck and see tourists as walking dollar signs. Don't take photographs of anything unless you are willing to part company... More

Been to Marrakech 3 times and still can't get enough of Djemaa al Fna. Some of the bad reviews don't surprise me as the culture there is completely different to the western countries so you'll either love it and appreciate it for being so different or you'll hate it. Here's a few tips for those travelling from western countries: 1)... More

We went to the Jemaa el Fna as it seemed to be a must from Trip Advisor reviews. My main thought is that it was busy, you didn't get the opportunity to browse without being harrassed by women doing henna tatoos, men with monkeys, people offering horse drawn carriages around the town, restaurant staff trying to get you to eat... When in Marrakech, you MUST see the Place Jemaa el Fna at sunset! It's the center and heart of the city, both geographically and emotionally. We walked through it a few times during the day, there's nothing much to see, but WOW do things change at sunset. Try to get a rooftop table at the Café de France; watching the... More
