This is one of the greatest places I've been to. The animation in the evenings is incredible. Most of all, this place is real: street performers carry on ancestral folklore and tell traditional stories, not for tourists but for Moroccean people (who constitute most of the audience). Definitely a must-see. more

you simply couldn't come here withiout visiting the sqaure, however I didn't feel it was all it was cracked up to be. On the plus side its pretty unique & different by day & night. Surrounded by cafes its great to just people watch without the hassle. If you stand still in the square to look at anything you will... more

I can't believe the negative comments about Jemma El Fna -I found it truly magical and everything I had hoped for. Yes -you get hasselled to buy -but i expected that. I found that being polite worked -I certainly had no one shouting abuse at me. The locals are lovely friendly people. We went to the square every night for... more

Went there on my first night in Marrakesh and it was absolutely disappointing. Coudln't believe that noone had warned me about this tourist trap. Some might call it authentic, charming, magical - I call it a complete scam where even little kids are taught that money talks. Once you get to the food stalls, it gets even worse: every where... more

If you want to feel the city's soul, you can't miss Jemaa el Fna in the evening. People start arriving and you are able to see all sor of things - traditional games, story tellers, music players, serpent enchanters, and so on. We were advised to look after our bagpacks, but felt it was quite safe. If you don't want... more

This is a really crappy, disgusting place, and I would not recommend it to anyone. There are so many more interesting souks in other parts of Maroc - Rabat and Fez, for instance, offer genuine, authentic and engaging central areas of cultural interest within their medina's. Jemaa el Fna is a big, grubby rip-off. I spent 10 days in Maroc,... more

We were in Marrakech two nights, about 10 days apart, as part of a small tour group. Had two great meals at Booth 41 - great kebabs, pastilla, tangier, tagine. Accomodated our group of 7 wonderfully - an atmospheric and delish meal to remember both times. Cap it off with fresh OJ and dates from neaby stands. more

Once upon a time, I'm sure this must have been a place of miracles, but the fairy tale has definitely ended. Today's Jemaa el Fna is a very rough place, intimidating to say the least and not in a good way. The cultural outbursts that once were spontaneous and genuine are now clearly a facade put up for tourists. In... more

Jemaa el Fna is a fascinating place to shop or just explore. During our stay in Marrakech we spent a lot of time in Jemaa el Fna. The experience is completely different during the day vs night. It is amazing how the open square fills up with restaurants offering exotic and/or delicious foods as soon as the day starts to... more

Jemaa el fna is the heart of Marrakech and my reason for visiting and it didn't disappoint. The atmosphere is amazing and there's so much to see from transvestite dancers to snake charmers and so many places to eat with the boys sent out to get you into their area hilarious with their chat. A must-see. more
