The Photography Museum has opened its doors in the heart of Marrakesh since May 2009.A private collection of 8000 photographs was gathered, this collection is only about Morocco and covers the period 1870 to 1950.The exposition contains hundreds of old photographs and shows the first film recorded in the High-Atlas in color, in 1957 by Daniel Chicault « Landscapes and Faces of the High-Atlas ». A small museum in the medina (a bit tricky to find - we were escorted by local kids!) which tells the story, through mainly 1920s and 1930s photographs, of the ways of life, music, costume and traditions of the various tribes of morocco. Suggest you visit after you've been to the museum of Marrakech because you see the artefacts in... More

we had high expectations prior to our visit and left feeling disappointed, a little pricey for whats there. However the view from the rooftop café was fabulous

Situated in a Riad this stunning collection of photographs is well worth the visit . The photographers have created some beautiful and in some cases atmospheric images of Morocco in the early years of the camera ! Has to be my favourite place to see in Marrakech - even had a small roof top cafe .

I visited for an afternoon, the exhibition was interesting but fairly small. The cafe / roof terrace was really nice!

The traditional Riad building was a wonderful foil for these stunning and informative photos. We also loved the old documentary footage-what an amazing proud and stunning people. Be sure to use the cafe, delicious food and the most amazing view of the Atlas Mountains.

The array of black and white photography is striking, especially in a city of colour such as Marrakech. The exhibitions are relatively small which means you can take your time viewing and the cafe on the rooftop is very pleasant - we had another delicious tagine and mint tea here and found it to be relatively inexpensive for the shade... This is a small, wonderfully curated museum. The photographs provide a real insight into Moroccan life and show how little some things have changed for some Morroccans. The museum is housed in a lovely building and should be on your top 10 things to see in Marrakech. Don't miss it. The cafe serves excellent food but be prepared to wait... More

Interesting museum. There is a cafe on the terrace but we had to wait ages to be served so gave up. The way of life is slow and we were happy with this but they could have been more aware of customers so missed out

Whoops! I referred to this breathtaking institution as 'Musée', rather than 'Maison' in my hotel review... A visit here was highly recommended by a Moroccan friend of mine and it truly is a gem of a collection, sequestered away in the heart of the souks. Don't allow any itinerant businessman to steer you away from its path, encouraging you to... More

This museum is located right around the corner from the Ben Yousef Madrasa. I enjoyed the museum despite having a limited knowledge of photography. There's also a rooftop restaurant with an amazing view!
