Great little river running through it. In some places it looks like it is only knee high. super clear. Wonderful trails. I found a story board on how the area was developed and found that it was a town at one time that was wiped out by a flood. Very interesting story. Worth searching out the story board.

Grab a bike and go, don't forget your camera. And nearby is the Cove Restaurant, at the lake, a wonderful restaurant. But make sure to call ahead for the restaurant, only open seasonally. Look for the rocks overhanging the streams and the waterfalls.

We spent a couple of hours here on a beautiful fall day. The park is very pretty with canyons and vegetation, lots of different types of birds. We drove around the entire park first, never saw anyone who worked there but we stopped by the office (closed) and got a trail map. What is it with Illinois State Parks and... More

This is the place to be in the fall. GORGEOUS!! We used to let our dogs swim in the river and dive for rocks. Nice area, year round.

We met Dave, the official camp site manager, when we first arrived and he was just great! Dave filled us in on everything these first time visitors needed to know, was really super helpful, and was just a great ambassador for the park. We visited with him several times for more advice, back road directions (Stagecoach Road is the best... More

Me and my husband attempted to camp here for our 25th wedding anniversary. The man running the campground told us of a site that was open so after spending the day here and setting up our tent for 2 hours we we were told that we needed to leave. It was almost dark and too late to setup elsewhere. So... More

We spent 3 nights camping here: 4 adults, 1 child and 2 dogs. We reserved 2 sites next to each other to put up the tents. The lots are good size, clean and they provide enough shade to feel comfortable when hot outside (and one of the days was really hot, with temperatures around 95F). You really can't beat the... More
