It’s also well known for strong tradewinds, forming a natural wind tunnel of sorts. It was here in 1795 that Kamehameha The Great conquered the island of Oahu in one of the bloodiest battles in Hawaiian history. Led by Kalanikupule, the defenders of Oahu were driven back up into the valley where they were trapped above the cliff. More than 400 of Kalanikupule's soldiers were driven off the edge of the cliff to their deaths 1,000 feet below. « less

Nice side trip heading over to Kailua Beach from Honolulu on Hwy 61. The views are amazing. You get a good look at the windward side of the island. You will feel the wind too! The wind coming up over the mountain is amazing. I was shocked to see a "Bee warning sign when there are high winds." Bees were... More

It was very windy, but the view is very very beautiful. Parking is $3 flat, but you only need to see it for like 10 minutes. Oh well, again, maybe it will help preserve things.

We drove up from Honolulu. The drive alone is nice, the lookout is breathtaking. There are strong cool Tradewinds from the east that are a refreshing bonus. This is completely different scenery and environment than the beach. If you have a spare afternoon you should definitely check this out!

Seriously! They're everywhere on Oahu. This is a quick 15 minute stop with exits on both sides of the through way (so if your stupid Apple maps tell you to make a u-turn, ignore it and watch on the right for an exit instead. Honor system parking fee of $3 when you arrive. More fantastic wind and an awesome view... More

Incredible views from up here. And lots of wind. Do not wear a skirt here! If you do, you will be holding it down. Lots of free chickens and feral cats. This place has an interesting history. Read the signs.

We were dodging bees being blown by at warp speed by every strong gust of wind. Views are unparalleled by any on the Island, however. Would rate 5 stars on the views alone.

Went to Pali lookout and wow was the view worth it. There was not much wind and I had an 8 month old child with me, it drizzled a bit but not much. There was also walking trails for those brave enough to climb higher, parking is $3 if your not local, locals can park for free. This attraction is... More

You can see all over the east coast of the island for far far away. It's so green and luscious around with the mountains coming down to meet in the valley beneath you. Just amazing. The wind, as everyone have said before, is strong and you for sure need to hold your hat, but it's nothing you can't deal with... More

Hold on to your hats! This is a wonderful piece of Hawaiian history and offers one of the best views on the island. It gets incredibly windy up there at times though so be sure to hold on to your valuables.
