It’s also well known for strong tradewinds, forming a natural wind tunnel of sorts. It was here in 1795 that Kamehameha The Great conquered the island of Oahu in one of the bloodiest battles in Hawaiian history. Led by Kalanikupule, the defenders of Oahu were driven back up into the valley where they were trapped above the cliff. More than 400 of Kalanikupule's soldiers were driven off the edge of the cliff to their deaths 1,000 feet below. « less

A trip to Oahu is not complete without a quick stop here to look out over the windward side of Oahu. It is just stunning. Even the drive up there is pretty. I know some people who skipped it because of parking but that's just silly - what's the hurry? You're on vacation. It is not a place people stay... More

One of the few places on the island (other than Diamond Head) that we were able to get a bird's eye view of the coast and also great views of the mountain terrain. Very lush, windy and crowded. We were probably one of the few people who bothered to pay the $3.00 self-parking fee since it's the honor system. Although... More

This lookout has absolutely beautiful views of Kaneohe and Kailua. You won't spend too much time here, but it's worth the trip! Be aware it is very windy up there, so keep your camera strapped to your wrist.

This was a stop on our tour and it was a place that looked out over miles of great views. The windiest place there is.

Beautiful drive and view. Parking is a joke and it is WINDY. But some of the best views we've found so far. Worth the trip.

I have visited Pali Lookout with my family a couple different times now and the view is spectacular! Both times, the wind was blowing very strongly, which we thought was alot of fun. But be very careful when going down to the lower level! There is a long drainage pipe that is attached to the ground and if you are... More

Great view and expect STRONG winds! but great view! Only have to pay for parking (they gotta make some money some how right?) $3 flat rate pretty much. It's a look and go place, won't be there for too long maybe 30 minutes max. you won't want to stay in the strong wind for too long anyway!

An hours drive from the Makapuu lighthouse trail. At this lookout point, you get a panoramic view of the town of Kailua and its beaches. I do recommend this place. There isn't any entry fee however the parking is charged!

The road leading to Pali lookout is quite narrow however the trees especially the bamboo trees that lined the road sides create a rural like atmosphere. This is the best place to appreciate the panoramic view of Honolulu, lots of greens and with mountain borders. Be prepared to go against the strong wind. This place is historical - in 1700... More

Coming from Honolulu on Hwy #91, this lookout affords you your first view of the windward coast. Lava mountains rise abruptly from the coast here, as a great contrast to the Honolulu area. I imagine it is always windy here, and some days it is said you can actually lean into the wind and be held up. Parking is the... More
