It’s also well known for strong tradewinds, forming a natural wind tunnel of sorts. It was here in 1795 that Kamehameha The Great conquered the island of Oahu in one of the bloodiest battles in Hawaiian history. Led by Kalanikupule, the defenders of Oahu were driven back up into the valley where they were trapped above the cliff. More than 400 of Kalanikupule's soldiers were driven off the edge of the cliff to their deaths 1,000 feet below. « less

Been to Ohau many times but never got to see this site for a lot of reasons so even when there is rain, dark cloudy skies we proceeded. Upon reaching the lookout, the wind was blowing like the intensity of typhoon haiyan, and reading the highlights of how this was the turning point of having a united Hawaii and how... More

This lookout is amazing. I have always made it a point to take family and friends there on their first trip to Oahu. If the breathtakingly beautiful views of the mountains, valley, and ocean aren't enough, you will be in awe of the history. Hundreds of warriors fell to their deaths from the very ledge you stand and look over.... More

If ever on the East side of Ohau, you absolutely have to take a 10 minute pit stop at the lookout. The wind is blowing ridiculously strong and makes you regrets having done your hair that morning, but the views below are absolutely stunning! It is definitely worth a quick stop and make sure not to wear a hat as... More

The Pali lookout provides great views out to the ocean and surrounding areas. Loads of local Hawaiian culture and history is also associated with this area. You will also probably encounter a wild chicken or three!

A very beautiful view! Well worth the drive and time! Bring a jacket because it is very windy! A nice scenic overlook of the windward side of the island.

Even though I've lived most of my life on Oahu, I always enjoy visiting Nuuanu Pali Lookout. Gorgeous views of the Windward side of the island. Perhaps it's just because I recall going here as a child, the past few times I've been it seems less windy than I remembered. There is a parking fee of $3 now, but not... More

A quick and beautiful view of Kaneohe Bay, the Eastern part of Ohau - green and lush. It can get very windy and cold so ideal to bring a jacket.

The lookout is a short drive out Hwy 61 from Waikiki. The road in is tree top and vine covered, seems like a movie set. You must pay for parking unless you are active military. Some signs depict the creation of the roadway and why it was important to Oahu. It is also the site of a major battle between... More
