Description: The Nuuanu Pali State Wayside is a lookout above the Pali Highway tunnels...
The Nuuanu Pali State Wayside is a lookout above the Pali Highway tunnels where you’re treated to a panoramic view of Oahu's Windward side with sweeping views of Kaneohe, Kaneohe Bay and Kailua. It’s also well known for strong tradewinds, forming a natural wind tunnel of sorts. It was here in 1795 that Kamehameha The Great conquered the island of Oahu in one of the bloodiest battles in Hawaiian history. Led by Kalanikupule, the defenders of Oahu were driven back up into the valley where they were trapped above the cliff. More than 400 of Kalanikupule's soldiers were driven off the edge of the cliff to their deaths 1,000 feet below.

Enjoyed this windy place very much. Please aware, as posted elsewhere, that there is an unadvertised $3 parking charge. The Automatic fee collector is manned by attendants so no one will try to avoid paying. It accepts plastic. The lot is adequate, but be warned about tour buses. Also it is very windy there, as this is a mountain pass... More

We came by in July in our way to the North Shore ( Turtle Bay) It was nice and sunny in Honolulu and nice and sunny on the other side, but was poring rain with thick clouds at the lookout. It might be great I just couldn't tell, but it seems like the mountain top areas have more frequent clouds... More

The lookout is an amazing view of a large part of the island and worth it if you can find/wait for parking. It is high enough up though that it does get rather windy. There is also a trail up the hill even further on the right side that a sign discourages people from hiking up, but they do anyway.... More

The look out costs $3.00 to park, seemed a might much. We did get out and look. Can be windy at times. Bees are in the area.

Stopped here based on other reviews we say on the internet. Highly recommended. Great views of the north shore and the cliffs and valleys that drop off to the valley below. Takes less than 30 minutes but you do need to pay to park. Visibility depends on the weather.

Unless you want to pull a Marilyn up here, it’s best to wear shorts or pants when visiting the Pali.  Probably safe to leave all hats and any little dogs at home too.  It is VERY windy over here, but that is what makes this place fun.  Very famous spot in Hawaiian history (a great battle was fought and ended with people falling... Nice little place to stop and take it all in. Had the fortunate pleasure of stopping on a sunny day and views all the way to the water were clear. Definitely worth a quick stop on your travels.

If you are on Oahu, make it a priority (up there with eating and breathing) to see this. Nothing more needs to be said. I have hundreds of pics of this viewpoint. I would attach a pic but I want you to see it for yourself. Simply stunning. Plus, a picture would not capture the scale of the view you'll... More

Pali Lookout offers some of the best views of Windward Oahu. There is a little crazy parking scam where you pay 3 dollars for the few minutes you spend there but the view is worth it. Be prepared for strong winds and occasional drenching downpours but enjoy the beautiful views of Rabbit Island and Chinaman's Hat.

Great place to see a lot. From the mountain views, to the lush vegetation, to the great view of the coastline. Easy to get tolookout. Parking fee.
