Owner description: The Nuuanu Pali State Wayside is a lookout above the Pali Highway tunnels where you’re treated to a panoramic view of Oahu's Windward side with sweeping views of Kaneohe, Kaneohe Bay and Kailua. It’s also well known for strong tradewinds, forming a natural wind tunnel of sorts. It was here in 1795 that Kamehameha The Great conquered the island of Oahu in one of the bloodiest battles in Hawaiian history. Led by Kalanikupule, the defenders of Oahu were driven back up into the valley where they were trapped above the cliff. More than 400 of Kalanikupule's soldiers were driven off the edge of the cliff to their deaths 1,000 feet below.

The day we went there it was rainy, windy and had an eerie feel. The view was beautiful and it was fascinating reading about the history of the area. It did not take long to drive up to the lookout from Waikiki. A must do on Oahu.

If you are not a hiker, this is an amazing view for zero work. You park and just walk up to the view. For experienced hikers, there is a unofficial trail to the left. from the lookout, its the nearest peak. some climbers were out with actual climbing gear. We climbed halfway up and chickened out since we were 3... More

Absolutely gorgeous views. It gets really windy at the top, so hold on to your hat, and get ready for some of the best sights you can find in the island!

We've been to the Lookout many times and it's usually incredibly windy, often rainy and sometimes it feels downright dangerous. We finally caught it on a calm day - first time! You pay to park now, which is OK as there had been vehicle break-ins in the past. It's hard to believe the lookout is only 10 minutes from downtown... More

My favorite spot on Oahu, but do visit on a sunny day. The mountains are the most amazing green in the sun, and the view is fantastic. Be prepared for wind and bus loads of visitors. It's also an amazing historical site with good explanations. Be sure to stay on the path/lookout as someone ventured off a few months ago,... More

On one of our tours in Honolulu, we went to visit a lookout. it was a place located on top of a hill which offers a good view of the villages around. it was historic for Oahu since its a vital point in one of the local historical wars. :)

The day we went was so clear with little breeze so we were extremely lucky. We felt we could see forever. It was magnificent. There is a man selling photos with a bird which doesn't appeal to us but there were tourists who loved it. If you have a car it is definitely worth stopping off and enjoying the views.

Great view from up there but we only spent a few minutes there. We had to pay 3$ for parking but for the limited timd we were there it wasn't worth it. very windy up there. after 5 minutes you have seen all.

Stopped here twice while we were visiting. It was on our travel route. Each time we stopped, a car had the window smashed out and had items stolen from it. Talking to one of the locals, this happens here daily. It was a beautiful stop, however it could ruin your trip. Leave someone by the car at all times.
