Owner description: The Nuuanu Pali State Wayside is a lookout above the Pali Highway tunnels where you’re treated to a panoramic view of Oahu's Windward side with sweeping views of Kaneohe, Kaneohe Bay and Kailua. It’s also well known for strong tradewinds, forming a natural wind tunnel of sorts. It was here in 1795 that Kamehameha The Great conquered the island of Oahu in one of the bloodiest battles in Hawaiian history. Led by Kalanikupule, the defenders of Oahu were driven back up into the valley where they were trapped above the cliff. More than 400 of Kalanikupule's soldiers were driven off the edge of the cliff to their deaths 1,000 feet below.

On one of our tours in Honolulu, we went to visit a lookout. it was a place located on top of a hill which offers a good view of the villages around. it was historic for Oahu since its a vital point in one of the local historical wars. :)

The day we went was so clear with little breeze so we were extremely lucky. We felt we could see forever. It was magnificent. There is a man selling photos with a bird which doesn't appeal to us but there were tourists who loved it. If you have a car it is definitely worth stopping off and enjoying the views.

Great view from up there but we only spent a few minutes there. We had to pay 3$ for parking but for the limited timd we were there it wasn't worth it. very windy up there. after 5 minutes you have seen all.

Stopped here twice while we were visiting. It was on our travel route. Each time we stopped, a car had the window smashed out and had items stolen from it. Talking to one of the locals, this happens here daily. It was a beautiful stop, however it could ruin your trip. Leave someone by the car at all times.

We landed in Oahu for a multi island vacation. On the way to our hotel we stopped here and it was a great introductory look at the beauty the islands have to offer. Cloud cover cut off the top of the mountains on either side, but it was a very different yet interesting look. We spent less than 20 minutes... More

I thoroughly enjoyed the view, it was amazing however I didn't get a picture with my friends because it was super windy and the bees were being blown all over. Yes there are bees flying around. They personally do not bother me but it did take away from the groups enjoyment. There is however a secret hike nearby called the... More

We drove up but overall found this scenic view to not quite as dramatic as others we have visited in Hawaii. It's still a nice drive up.

The breathtaking view is all it takes to make this stop worthwhile! I was wearing a skirt that day, which I will be sure not to do again as it is exceedingly windy. This was also our first encounter with the feral cats and chickens that are found all over the island.
