It’s also well known for strong tradewinds, forming a natural wind tunnel of sorts. It was here in 1795 that Kamehameha The Great conquered the island of Oahu in one of the bloodiest battles in Hawaiian history. Led by Kalanikupule, the defenders of Oahu were driven back up into the valley where they were trapped above the cliff. More than 400 of Kalanikupule's soldiers were driven off the edge of the cliff to their deaths 1,000 feet below. « less

We got lucky with parking. But it is very limited. There is only a 100 yard paved walk to get to the viewing area. I di not see restrooms or any place to purchase food or water. It's free. It was a 20-25 minute drive in our rental from downtown Honolulu. And a ten minute ride/ from to Kailua beach.

Parking is $3, so be sure to bring change with you. I was short about 50 cents and had to use my Canadian credit card. And you really only need 15min here. Oh well. Lookout was amazing and windy. We walked down towards the right hand side of the lookout and it got really windy! Incredible just to feel the... More

The Pali lookout is easy to drive to and the view is impressive. Even though I knew it would be windy, feeling the strength of the wind was much more than I imagined. It was well worth the short stop here!

It was beautiful and found it awesome to feel the strong winds that were up there. The parking is only $3 and definitely worth the short drive from Honolulu.

It might be a short visit to the Pali look out however you will not be disappointed. The view from there is amazing!!! Words cannot describe the beautiful scenery as you walk out to the lookout. If you're visiting Oahu you have to drive up to the Pali look out just to say you've been there.

Nice side trip heading over to Kailua Beach from Honolulu on Hwy 61. The views are amazing. You get a good look at the windward side of the island. You will feel the wind too! The wind coming up over the mountain is amazing. I was shocked to see a "Bee warning sign when there are high winds." Bees were... More

It was very windy, but the view is very very beautiful. Parking is $3 flat, but you only need to see it for like 10 minutes. Oh well, again, maybe it will help preserve things.

We drove up from Honolulu. The drive alone is nice, the lookout is breathtaking. There are strong cool Tradewinds from the east that are a refreshing bonus. This is completely different scenery and environment than the beach. If you have a spare afternoon you should definitely check this out!

Seriously! They're everywhere on Oahu. This is a quick 15 minute stop with exits on both sides of the through way (so if your stupid Apple maps tell you to make a u-turn, ignore it and watch on the right for an exit instead. Honor system parking fee of $3 when you arrive. More fantastic wind and an awesome view... More
