Description: The Nuuanu Pali State Wayside is a lookout above the Pali Highway tunnels...
The Nuuanu Pali State Wayside is a lookout above the Pali Highway tunnels where you’re treated to a panoramic view of Oahu's Windward side with sweeping views of Kaneohe, Kaneohe Bay and Kailua. It’s also well known for strong tradewinds, forming a natural wind tunnel of sorts. It was here in 1795 that Kamehameha The Great conquered the island of Oahu in one of the bloodiest battles in Hawaiian history. Led by Kalanikupule, the defenders of Oahu were driven back up into the valley where they were trapped above the cliff. More than 400 of Kalanikupule's soldiers were driven off the edge of the cliff to their deaths 1,000 feet below.

Breath taking panoramic views. We were on the beach 15 minutes before heading up the mountain road into a rainstorm. Don't let the weather detour you. It changes within minutes. The road into the park is lush & has amazing rainforest lined trees & vines. Fortunately the rain stopped as we parked. There is a self paid parking area $3. It... More

Great view all the way to the ocean. For a more fun adventure , when you leave Honolulu to drive up 61, take a right on Nu'uanu Pali Drive to drive a small back street up to the Lookot

This is only a few kilometers outside of Honolulu and practically adjacent to the main road, so there's not much hiking or even walking involved. The view towards the coast is breathtaking on a clear day, though.

My children took me here on the day I arrived on Oahu. This is a beautiful view overlooking the island. It was quite breezy and a little cooler up here. You could spend a lot more time here if you go hiking.

Definitely worth taking the time to stop here and take in the view. Even on a misty day, the view is still fantastic. Take a light weight jacket because it can be windy and/or cool. You do have to pay a small fee to park.

Went up here on a very cloudy and windy day, struggled to even walk up the ramp but once you're up there the view was pretty amazing. Take a few minutes when you're up there and soak in the view and the breeze, try going in on a clear day though, that may make the view even better.

Gorgeous views all the way to the shore! It was a bit misty while we were there but our view was not obstructed. The area is lush and green and beautiful all around. There are quite a few wild and chickens running around but for the most part they stay away. There are a few plaques explaining the interesting history... More
