I echo the 3 preceding reviews; we did this hike in foggy weather (which I gather is a regular occurrence) so we didn't expect any views (& certainly didn't get any). The ascent was certainly adventurous & was worried continuously about the descent...knowing they are often worse. In any event, to make a long story short, shortly after turning around... More

We wanted to do some trekking and decided to do the mt. Ka´ala trail (without ambitions to reach the top). After parking the car, we started up the paved road (it felt endless as it was already hot even if it was short of 9 AM, and there is no shade) , On and off we had a nice view... More

Just some backgrond info: The top of Mount Ka'ala houses an FAA satellite tracking station (it's the golf-ball like structure you can see from afar on ground). The facility is not open to the public and guests are to keep out under penalty of Federal law. And yes, there is a paved road leading up there but again, this road... More
