We are not board surfers, so a moderate wave day was perfect for us. Enjoyed body surfing and boggie boarding. Parking was a challenge and we had to park off site and walk in. The beach is well covered by lifeguards. Even on a moderate day, the surf is not for non swimmers. No gentle wading in soft lapping waves.... More

It was a Sunday and I was driving along the North Shore. Parking was impossible because it was packed with surfers trying to "catch a wave.". It was a dramatic scene but way too dangerous for swimming.

We drove by this many times. There is a neat hike behind it to see pretty flowers. Great place to snorkel too!

While I was driving through teh monster waves on the north shore had this beach packed, and parking was unheard of for over a mile away. People were standing, walking along the road, as where very large TV camera's taking in all of the surfers who were quite a ways out, sitting in Que and waiting their turn to ride... More

Went to Waimea Bay hoping to go for swim, but the shorebreak and undertow were too dangerous. The lifeguards ordered everyone out of the water after having to help three swimmers in difficult in about 10 minutes. I'm sure it's not always like that, don't want to be unfair, it's a gorgeous beach with lovely sand and good facilities. Would... More

This is a favorite beach for the locals. We went on a day that they were having a surf competition. The waves were fifteen feet. Florida surfers beware. This is over your head, literally!

Popular beach on the north shore. Soft, deep sand and constant (huge) waves. Also has "jump rock" - a rock formation in the water that you can climb to the top of and jump off into the water below. Limited parking however.

We had rented a beach front cottage close to Sunset Beach, so our visit here as out of curiosity. It was actually quite surprising how much calmer the water was at Waimea. The beach is very broad and deep, so while there were a lot of people about, it didn't feel "too" crowded. Looks like swimmers dominate here, versus the... More

My wife and I spent an afternoon at this beach and totally enjoyed it. The waves were pretty big, a little to big for her to go very far out, but I enjoyed them. The breakers were about 8 to 12 feet in size on the East side of the beach and bigger further West. I did not have a... More

Went to see the huge surf, hover it was not there the day we were. The beach was lovely not crowded like Waikiki and the water was refreshing and crystal clear. Lovely walk between the beaches on this the North Shore.
