Three of the 6 beaches I am naming on the windward (northeastern) coast of O'ahu. Peaceful, beautiful, uncrowded - the complete opposite of Waikiki and the touristy south shore of the island. The first (#2) is Kahana Bay. The next (#3) is Punalu' Beach and the third (#4) is Hauula Beach. We are moving south to north here along Kamehameha... More

Stopped for a lunch and a swim on a drive of the North Shore. It has everything you need from picnic tables, washrooms, shade, a shower and of course a very nice and peaceful beach. You find yourself in a beautiful bay surrounded by lush hills on either side. Behind you is lined with trees in a quaint little campground.... More

I camped at Kahana Bay every year with my Family as a Child. We camped for an entire MONTH at a time. Back then, there were NO FEES, and NO PARK CLOSURES, and you could camp anywhere along the Beach Park. Today, all of that has changed. ALL CAMPING on the Island of O'ahu only consists of 5 days. No... More

I knew the water wouldn't be clear before arriving. No problem. The beach itself is pretty to look at and not very crowded. But the sand/beach area isn't super clean and is just lackluster. Looks nicer from afar. Glad I stopped and checked it off my list of beaches. No need to return.

Gorgeous views and quiet on weekdays. Soft white sand, small swells perfect for kids on boogie boards. Camping allowed. Locals were friendly and took our photo!

We stopped here on a recent drive around the island. This park is located along the Kamehameha Highway adjacent to the Kahana Valley. While here we took the time to hike the Kapa'ele'ele trail which starts adjacent to the visitors center. This one mile trail takes you to some wonderful vantage points that look out over the bay. It also... More

We stopped here to stretch our legs and have a quick photo op on our trip from Honolulu to the Polynesian Cultural Center. It is a beautiful beach and spent longer there than we had planned. Being on the windward side (East) of the island, it is wetter and rainier that Honolulu which is fine if you plan for it.

The eastern side of the island is much less crowded than Waikiki and this little beach makes a nice place to rest and relax. There is a pine woods that buffers the road from the beach and the scenery is worth a stop. While I visited, there were only two other families who were there. They have showers and some... More
