I am not sure what I was thinking when I decided to take this road, but the scenery was well worth it. I am so glad I did this trip 3 days before the October 2006 Sunday AM earthquake which I also had the fun of experiencing 9 stories up. All the stories you hear on trip advisor are true,... More

Sure it gets down to one lane but we were in a four door Jeep and were never worried. Few people do this so there isn't really many times you'll have to worry about coming up to someone during a one lane. I wouldn't call this scary but I would say it is more aggressive than Hana. You'll drive slowly... More

Wife keeps asking - "Are you sure Frommers suggested this route?" Guys, if you want to stay married stay off this road. Especially do not drive it going counter-clockwise (as you will be on outside lane of basically what should be considered a one lane road.) Makes Road to Hana look laughably easy. There are no guard rails and you... More

We ventured on this road going north from Kapalua and saw lots of surfing and people pulled off in spots but then it shrunk to a one lane road WITHOUT any signs to tell you this. We met a car head-on at a very small spot in the road, and one of us had to back up. We elected to... More

After a week in North West Maui our family decided to take one last adventure and drive Hwy 340 clockwise back to Central Maui. It was a neat experience, breath taking views, tight narrow roads and excitement all the way. This isn't the way you would want to drive every time you go to and from the west side, but... More

I did this road on my last day in Maui. I thought I had seen all the island had to offer.... Boy was I wrong. Although dangerous at times this is the most beautiful drive in Maui, and maybe even the world. So happy I did it, you will not regret it, especially if your adventurous. Just drive slow, don't... I have to assume that the people who gave it five stars didn't meet any cars coming the opposite direction. I wish I had read the negative reviews before I took this route. The "Maui Revealed" guidebook made it sound like an unpleasantly narrow road, but not the very dangerous one that it really is. We went west to east,... More

Highway 304 is a beautiful road. At times you are hugging the road and all there is are sheer cliffs on the driver's side. At one point the road gets so narrow that we wondered what we would do if we meet a car on coming in the opposite direction. No way to do a u-turn so who would back... More

Exciting, a little challenging at times. Be extremely careful, as you can be misled by the lack of cars, but there is a little oncoming traffic when you least expect it, coming around a blind turn. do NOT go if you are not a competent driver and you better be sure of yourself. Remain UNEXCITEABLE at the wheel. Stay calm... More

We had just arrived in Maui the day before, we decided to take a drive. We are on this nice piece of highway. Then road then turns into a narrow road, then more narrow. You are hugging the mountain to allow oncoming traffic to pass. I even had to back up several times to find a spot to allow other drivers... More
