Absolutely great road to drive. Spectacular views, road quality is excellent (fully paced and good quality, currently there is even a repaving in progress giving the final stretch better asphalt and widening the road where possible). Pitoresque village with great Banana bread (I recommend Lorraine!). The road is locally very narrow (barely one lane wide) and there are many corners... More

I'm a great driver and did the Road to Hana in a breeze. However, even if you are a great driver you need to consider the risks beyond your control on Highway Route 340. First, looking at the map, you may think you'll make it to the other side before dark; but you need to allow a few hours because... More

We decided to take up the challenge to go through the northwest part of Maui, driving from Napilli to Airport. The drive is exciting to some extent. Once the route 30 ends and route 340 starts. After traveling few miles on 30, road gets narrower and narrower and it is single car lane road, I am not kidding here. If... More

This drive is not bad. Go slow. Buy some banana bread from Cindy, she is great, so friendly. Be ready to pull to side for drivers headed in opposite direction. On some spots along the road its s total of 9 feet across. Its paved. Don't worry! The other reviews about how terrifying... You will have a blast. Do not... More

This ride is everything everyone says about it - breathtaking yet terrifying. If you, and your crew, are up for it then have at it. As I placed in the title, you may pack an extra pair of shorts for the trip in case some of the drive becomes a bit too much. Please check road conditions as parts are... More

I went on highway 340 from the Lahaina side after reading all the reviews, watching YouTube videos etc. We were driving a Toyota Corolla, but we saw many other drivers successfully travel the road in jeeps, mustangs and even a mini-van (!!). We encountered several cars and even had to back up a couple of times but honestly as long... More

Unique experience ... 1 lane road in many places, cliff on one side, falling rock wall on the other. At the start of it going clockwise there were great views of the ocean full of surfers. Didn't know anything about it going in so wasn't sure if it was even a road we should be driving on ... Saw a... More

This road is the scariest road I have ever been on. It narrows to one lane. And I mean just enough room between the cliff and the ledge. Not a small drop but a cliff down to the ocean. My husband and I had no clue the road was just going to narrow to this extent. We got to the... More

Yes, it was a little scary. To know that going in would be nice. We had no clue. It is sooooo beautiful! I would say don't go at night or in rain. Make sure you have a full tank of gas. So memorable, highly recommend.

My husband and I accidentally ended up on this road the morning of our wedding day. It was by far the most horrifying experience of my life. We were in a tiny Chevy Sonic and barely fit on this one lane dirt road that is on the side of a 300 ft cliff with no guardrail! The scenery was breathtaking,... More
