Warning: this is NOT for everyone - so my husband and I REALLY enjoyed it, BUT i can see how many people wouldn't like it. Recommendations: 1. Don't take a tour, if you want to do the tour, then I would just skip on going. You are in a cramped bus and because its such a long drive, you don't... More

With around 600 curves and 50 bridges it sounds a little challenging. Not if you head out early. The real challenges are traffic and weather. If just going to Hana and back figure between 4-6 hours. If making the full loop (unpaved roads not allowed by rental car agencies) figure all day. There are many roadside waterfalls and beautiful coastal... More

My family and I did this drive twice on our last visit. Although the distance is relatively short, it takes some time to get to Hana and back. There are dozens of spots to stop and explore and along the way and even though I did this route twice I feel I only have gotten a fraction of what it... More

Hired a driver for the trip and it was the best idea - the roads wind very much and if you are driving you would need to pay attention to the road/cars!! Was so beautiful! It was a long day, but worth it. The black sand beaches are so amazing. I would bring sneakers or closed-shoes that will allow you... More

I've been to Maui several times but never did the Hana drive until this last visit. Now it is beautiful, but all the hype I've heard about it was hard to live up to. Also, we did the west side drive from Lahaina through the west mountains which was far better experience. The drive to Hana is long and winding... More

We had a beautiful trip to Hana, the only drawback was we couldn't see everything we wanted to. We left Kihei at 8 am and we didn't get home until 8:45 pm. The drive home, without stopping, was 2 1/2 hours long. I would suggest you pack food for the day and ginger tablets for the winding road. Our first... More

The entire island is tiny but roads carve alongside the mountains providing scenery you can only dream of. People caution of locals but the real worry are the tourists who drive in the middle of the road or come to a slamming stop to let a car pass instead of cautiously moving over. (Don't be that guy!) Tons of places... More

Hi, We drove the Hana Hwy last week after being advised by as a must do & utilise the downloaded Gypsy guide, which is excellent. The guide provide a great brief on Hawian history & importantly where to stop with plenty of warning prior to the stops. You must one due to parking it gives you options on the return... More

We bought a cd that told us the mile markers and what was coming up and the history of a lot of the places we could see and if you could walk to the water and wherever there was restrooms . The rain forest was so beautiful !!!!!! The water falls alone make the trip worth while and all the... More

My sister and I opted to drive the road to hana. We bought the CD tour and followed the advice of the locals to drive all the way and stop at places on the way back to avoid the tour busses. Although the trip was beautiful the most scenic drive in the world should a) be able to see more... More
