Okay, so there's all these people that say the drive takes too long, too much time in the car, I want to go to the beach, yada yada. Throw out all of that. If you miss the drive to Hana you haven't seen Maui (or any of what makes it incredible) plain and simple. I'd been to Maui several years... More

This was a fantastic drive. Did the whole thing. Sure it takes all day. That's the point. We stopped a few times. Waterfalls, garden of Eden, etc... Then when it got dark the sky lit up with a blanket if stars.....we pulled over and after our eyes adjusted saw people with telescopes looking at the sky...man! Something out of a... More

We started out on the road to Hana at 8:30 a.m. and didn't complete the trip until 7:30 p.m. We stopped at every possible stop and although the waterfalls were beautiful the drive was the biggest waste of our time ever. There are so many other magnificent options that I feel a day was stolen from my trip.

Breathtaking views of sapphire blue ocean, cascading water falls, lush tropical green gardens. I recommend purchasing a CD of the mile marker attractions or use a gypsy guide on your cell phone. Our hotel, Makena Beach and Golf Resort, gave us the CD to borrow while driving on the Hana Highway. I recommend driving the whole way, start early morning... More

This trip is a real adventure. Be ready to drive slow! There are several areas where the roads are so narrow that only one direction of traffic is possible and oncoming traffic has to wait. But, some of the scenery is magnificent! I stopped by the grave of Charles Lindbergh on the trip which was the main reason for the... More

Sweet road! Pretty good experience driving on such a unique road. Give yourself lots of time to complete as it took us about 6 hours.

If you are looking for a beautiful drive, the Hana Highway is a MUST SEE! We were up very early and decided to spend the day driving from Paia down the Hana Highway to explore the "nooks and crannies." You can take a tour, which we opted not to do because we like having control of where we go and... More

If you really want to waste nearly a whole day in Maui and want the feel of being in a maze of winding highway, this is for you. Pity the fool driving the car and the poor passengers for hours on this road to really nowhere....you can see as much just taking short trips around Maui. But again if you... More

These reviews had me worried about the drive. Yes, go slow, and yes it can be a little hairy, but I never ever felt in danger. It was not frightening like the donkeys or buses on mountains in Greece and the Mt. Washington auto road in New Hampshire were for me. If I had to say anything bad, it's that... More

My husband and I have just returned from Maui. One of the highlights of our vacation was the tour to Hana and surrounding attractions with our excellent guide Bjorn Erlandson. He is a tour guide with Discover Hawaii Tours. He knew so many interesting and humorous stories that the history of the area came alive for us. We had a... More
