Head out early! Allow plenty of time, this is a long slow drive. This narrow winding road offers incredible views. I will never forget the beauty offered on this historic highway.

This has to be one of the worst roads in the USA. To call it curvy doesn't do it justice. To call it narrow and winding minimizes just how narrow and winding it is. The bad part is that many of the drivers do not obey the "yield to oncoming traffic" signs. More than once on my two trips up... More

My wife and I bought a CD from Boss Frogs that tells you all the interesting places along the way, as well as some history of Maui. It made the trip a lot more enjoyable and was a big help in letting us know where to go on the trip. The bamboo forest on the hike up to the waterfall... More

This is a very unique experience and while in Maui is a MUST do! It is such a fun beautiful drive. My one recommendation would be to not pay for the "pay for" garden on thefirst part of the drive but to visit the free one instead called Ke'anae Arboretum instead which is just past it. Same thing but for... More

All I can say is WOW! The Hana Highway, or "Road to Hana", is an amazing experience. My wife and I traveled the entire length of the highway during our honeymoon and was definitely one of the highlights. The views are amazing, although the lack of guardrails and what I still think are one lane roads are pretty unnerving. The... More

This is a long, but beautiful drive. The scenery is great and there are many places to pull off the road for scenic views and hikes to waterfalls. Be prepared to spend several hours on the highway traveling at slow speeds. There are several one lane bridges, narrow lanes, and curvy roads. It is best to use a guidebook so... More

We loved the scenic drive. The hairpin turns were frightening when cars headed directly at us were speeding. We were able to view Haipuaena Fall which is located approximately a half mile past the 11 mile marker. It was amazing and we were also able to observe small waterfalls dripping from the walls onto the highway at the same pullover/lookout.... More

We passed by beautiful parks with waterfalls and the botanical garden. The views are amazing. I recommend renting a convertible to get the most of the long ride on a winding road. Stop at a local farm stand to get a refreshing coconut water or pineapple. Enjoy!

This is an all day adventure if you take your time, be patient, and stop often. It's a truly beautiful and magical place. There are lots of stops to make and pictures to take - so make sure the camera batteries are charged! We've been to Maui twice and driven the Hana Highway at least 6 times. Our most recent... More
