I wouldn't do this again. The 617 hairpin turns and over 100 one way bridges were tiring. The views from the road weren't that good and when we there the waterfalls were non-existent. Poor road marking for the twin falls.

Hana highway is one of the most scenic drive(s) in US and there are already so many of recommendations about it. So I won't waste my time and energy repeating the same here. The only thing I want to add further is to be careful about not getting stuck in the jungle in the night. That is to say that... More

After driving around the entire northern side of the island the day before this drive was easy. Stopped halfway and went to Mama's for lunch on the way back. If I could give one piece of advice it would be to not stop and the first stop; too crowded, falls unimpressive and better things lay ahead. Saw amazing valleys you... More

This is as close as you can come to an actual rainforest in the US. On the drive you will see waterfalls, banana trees, coconut trees, papaya trees, passion fruit trees, and guavas. All just dropping their fruit in the middle of the highway. The views of the beaches from the cliffs are amazing. Some you can drive down to,... More

This is a must do during your trip to Maui. We were staying in Kihei and hit the road about 6:30 a.m. - went clockwise starting in Paia (def get your coffee there b/c there's not much after this town). Driving along the coast was lovely and we stopped at almost all the recommended vista points in the guide book... More

You must either take the drive or book one of the many offered tours to Hana. Yes the road becomes very narrow at times, and yes there are many many one lane bridges, but all very negotiable, except for the occasional locals driving in the opposite direction, but always a fun adventure. Great scenery all along the way. Not much... More

My wife and took a tour bus and really enjoyed the ride. The view was terrific, the stops well-chosen, and the tour guide very informative. We were glad we didn't drive. Many drivers we saw were white-knuckling the steering wheel! There are lots of beautiful sites.

One of the best drive i would have had in my life. You will encounter in N number of waterfalls during your drive. Don't wait to reach the 7 pond to take a dip. Take a dip the one you liked the most. Red sand beach is one of the most beautiful one. Most adventure hike and strenuous hike. Beautiful... More

If you're in a hurry, this drive is NOT for you! Hugging the eastern coast of Maui, the road to Hana can be a white knuckle drive of your life. Is there a more beautiful drive in America? Debatable, but not for me. Expect at least a three hour time investment EACH WAY. Expect rainforest, sculptural trees, stunning black rock... More

Have heard lots about the famous Hana Highway. Mostly daunting, but it is really worth the effort to do this. If your like us and don't normally drive on the 'right' side of the road, don't do this drive as your first driving experience. We drove the Highway after a few days of having our rental and was confident enough... More
