This is an all day adventure if you take your time, be patient, and stop often. It's a truly beautiful and magical place. There are lots of stops to make and pictures to take - so make sure the camera batteries are charged! We've been to Maui twice and driven the Hana Highway at least 6 times. Our most recent... More

Me and my partner are Australian! We are not afraid of a bit of an adventure at all . But heres my say to the Hana Highway..:) We are driving around in a little nissian altaro (very small compact car) . We drove from kehei to Hana and went straight through not turning around. It took us 7 hrs and... More

Not as exciting as we were hoping. The drive was windy, but that wasn't the problem. I think our expectations were too high. Drove through quite a bit of jungle/rain forest. Not as many dramatic views of the coast as we were expecting. It's difficult to stop and see the waterfalls along the way. We did a couple of the... More

This is a beautiful stretch of road , although you may need some nerve to drive this twisting one lane hi way nestled cliff side over the ocean! There are many sightseeing stops along the way, including many beautiful waterfalls! Just be sure not to leave any valuables in your car as we saw several parked cars with smashed out... More

This road is majestic, and one of the best things I've ever done in my life. But be very careful - you have to be a confident driver to complete this drive safely. If you have not driven in extremely rainy conditions before with limited sight, and do not know how to handle sudden blind corners and sharp turns properly,... More

A friend of mine only went half way to Hana because of its difficult drive, but I am glad we went all the way. All the great sights are after the half way point, especially the Black beach - which was spectacular. And the toasted coconut from this one strip mall(?) with restaurants and gift shop is amazing! I do... More

This is an excellent road trip along one of the most curvy and beautiful drives you'll ever take. Theres a CD you can purchase at many stores that takes you though the trip with mile post information. I did this trip 25 years ago and I was surprised at the number of waterfall trails that no longer exist because of... More

This was my favorite day of our 2 week trip. Spectacular views! Waterfalls, rainforest-like areas. Huge trees! Great beaches & some with lava beds. The Oheo Gorge was indescribable. And we swam there. Hiking galore... It took us from sunrise to sunset to travel The Hana highway. It's a full day excursion. And the road is one lane much of... More

Unless you really want to go off the beaten path, take a tour... Otherwise, your eyes will be nothing but on the road and you will miss all of the wonders. The road is so twisting and turning, the driver must have 100% focus on the road at ALL times. We enjoyed a leisurely tour with only 5 or 6... More
