I’ve survived the road to hana… My wife and I stayed on Maui for our honeymoon. I rented a car, to be precisely a Mustang convertible. Which was awesome and totally worth it… I’ve downloaded an APP with a included GPS Tour about the Hana Highway, which I was able to use offline, just with my GPS Tracker in the... More

We strolled Hana Highway in an open jeep which was awesome! We stopped and hiked to most of the water falls and swam. It is not for the faint of heart, it is narrow with lots switchbacks and locals fly down the road. It is amazingly beautiful and well worth the trip. Staying in Hana is wonderful as well and... More

On Maui we rented an Enterprise midsize car obtained through Discount Hawaiian Car rental (suggested on TA). Often on our trips we rent a bigger car, but the midsize car was perfect for our excursions and was much easier to traverse the Maui mountain roads. We have had experiences with other rental car companies beside Enterprise, but Enterprise was exceptional... More

We took a bus tour, and i would recommend that for anyone who would take the trip. The road is very narrow and winding, and the bus trip took us over the part of the road your rental car company will not let you take, so we did not have to double back.

but first make sure you are allowed to use it on the rough roads we did this as a tour ,day trip from pride of America stay, first half before national park road is good surface but very twisty, after the national park the road is a goat track ,being in a small bus it was pretty rough, did not like... The scenery and stops along this 50 mile highway are breathtaking. Waterfalls, Black Sand Beaches, Coral Coastlines, unbelievable vistas, but be prepared this is not a highway. Maximum speed limit is 25 mph and in most places it is 15 mph but you will travel much slower and including stops, it is an all day adventure. You also do not... More

it was hard to imagine for me that a road trip could be so amazing...but It was so beautiful. stopping and buying fruit and avacados on the way. you can only drive about 20 kms/hr so its a long drive, maybe 2 or 3 hours to get there. when we did we surfed at a beach and camped right on... More

So...the road to Hana. This is considered a fun "to-do" while in Maui and I tend to agree even in a lumbering SUV. The drive, as I am sure you'll read more of, is a long twisty ribbon of road that leads to the small isolated town of Hana. I live in/near the mountains of VA so the road was... More

We did a full day tour on the Road to Hana. They hadn't had much rain lately, so some of the waterfalls weren't flowing as the usually were. It was a very long day, pack a picnic lunch, towels, waters, and your bathing suits, sneakers and water shoes. There are swimming holes and beautiful beaches along the way. We didn't... More

I love this road, which is not a highway. It has one-way bridges, hairpin curves, beautiful scenery. And there is incentive to drive fast because you don't want to drive back in the dark! At the end of the road there are some ponds called the sacred bath of royal bath or somesuch. Completely overrun with tourists. Walk about fifty... More
