The day we were there the sea was rough and the undertow vicious. But a great beach to wander - maybe a mile long? Ten min walk on mainly paved tracks to beach which was practically uninhabited. the wind surfers were struggling as the wind was that strong. Heard it was a nude beach, not when we were there though.

This was the first beach stop my husband and I made when we arrived in Kauai! The walk down to the beach along the paved path was great! The beach was quiet and the waves were fun to watch. We must have arrived at the right time because we watched a few gentleman surf and the waves were beautiful! While... More

We love this beach and find it beautiful. It's a perfect crescent shape. It's not a beach to go to and swim or play in the water. It's perfect to walk and enjoy the impressive waves - sight and sounds. Another access option is from the Kapa'a bike path. Great pictures or walk from it.

This is my favorite beach because the waves are so large and the sound is so relaxing. It's pretty dangerous if you want to swim unless you are really experienced. The hike down to the beach is very nice and different, it's also good idea to ride bikes or hike along the ocean as there is a paved road.

Beaches are difficult to rate as everyone has different criteria. I've known this beach for 12 years. Donkey beach is a minor hike from the parking lot, but there are never many people there, so even though it's a small beach, it never feels crowded like the more popular beaches on the island. The surf is always rough as there... More

As "RSW" wrote - solitude! The sand was incredibly soft and the beach was beautiful! Small, so it made you feel like you were on a private little beach. Since I went in March, the waters were rough so I didn't go completely in the ocean, but I still walked in the water which was gorgeous. I still can't get... More

Loved the crescent shape of the beach. Hardly anyone was here. We parked in the parking lot, there were bathrooms there, then walked about ten minutes down the path to the beach. I liked that you don't see or hear any cars from this beach. We didn't try to swim, just loved looking at the beautiful beach and ocean. Nice... More

Donkey Beach use to be a secret spot and only few people knew how to get there. You had to park at the side of the street and then walk along sugar-cane fields to the secret location. Unfortunately the sugar cane fields have been replace by a new master-plan community. The beach can now be reached through a parking-lot along... More

I have a long history with Donkey Beach. Back in the '70's, it was a secret beach; you had to sneak through a quarter mile of sugar cane to get there. It takes its name from a little donkey that was corralled right above the beach. Now, the cane field is gone, replaced by a luxurious development of multi-million-dollar homes.... More

Donkey Beach is a good beach if you staying near the east shore and don't want to head north or south. We love sunbathing here. It used to be a popular nude beach, however it's a bit more rare recently. Swimming and snorkeling here is poor, but we like to surf and body board.
