This is a nice beach to visit for listening to the waves and reading a book in peace. Not many people around, and only a few surfers in the sea. Too dangerous for swimming. it must have been even better back before the paved trail when it was a naturist beach. It's a good place for a beach walk.

It may have been the rain, or that you had to take a bike path to get there, but this beach was totally empty, and amazing! It was really stunning and felt like we had our own private island. The waves were out of control, so we didn't step a foot in, but just enjoyed the view!

It's still a beautiful beach, but alas, I remember the beach from my first visits to Kauai in the late 1980s. It was a nude beach frequently only by visitors willing to take the trek across a farmer's sugar cane field down the unpaved road to the beach. Land developers bought the land and have built expensive homes on the... More

My wife and I made our way down to donkey beach this morning. We're so glad we decided to do this. There were probably a half dozen people on the whole beach. What a beautiful place - paradise!

This is perhaps our favorite beach to watch the waves. The ocean floor is such that as one wave finishes and begins to go back out that it collides with the wave coming in and as the two waves crash in to each other the sound is powerful and creates a wall of water going straight up.

The day we were there the sea was rough and the undertow vicious. But a great beach to wander - maybe a mile long? Ten min walk on mainly paved tracks to beach which was practically uninhabited. the wind surfers were struggling as the wind was that strong. Heard it was a nude beach, not when we were there though.

This was the first beach stop my husband and I made when we arrived in Kauai! The walk down to the beach along the paved path was great! The beach was quiet and the waves were fun to watch. We must have arrived at the right time because we watched a few gentleman surf and the waves were beautiful! While... More

We love this beach and find it beautiful. It's a perfect crescent shape. It's not a beach to go to and swim or play in the water. It's perfect to walk and enjoy the impressive waves - sight and sounds. Another access option is from the Kapa'a bike path. Great pictures or walk from it.

This is my favorite beach because the waves are so large and the sound is so relaxing. It's pretty dangerous if you want to swim unless you are really experienced. The hike down to the beach is very nice and different, it's also good idea to ride bikes or hike along the ocean as there is a paved road.

Beaches are difficult to rate as everyone has different criteria. I've known this beach for 12 years. Donkey beach is a minor hike from the parking lot, but there are never many people there, so even though it's a small beach, it never feels crowded like the more popular beaches on the island. The surf is always rough as there... More
