Parking is tough but the beach is beautiful! I like the fact they have a life guard there. I am not a really strong swimmer so I never made it out to the actual tunnels. I wish I had a floatations device I would have gone. A local told us sharks sleep in the tunnels. Just FYI.

Was looking for sea turtles and we were told we would have a good chance of seeing some here. On the quiet side, snorkeling good and we did see the turtles - amazing. This is also the beach were Bethany Hamilton was bit by the shark. Would definitely go!!

We enjoyed going to this beach a few times during our visit. If you want to park close to the snorkeling area get there early or else walk down from the park down the street. The snorkeling is very good here. It is pretty shallow in some areas so be careful to not step on the coral - it drops... More

We absolutely loved this beach. The snorkeling is unbeatable in the summer. So many colorful fish and multiple sea turtles, even tiny little fish near the beach in the shallows for the kids to see. We also dove here with Fathom Five and loved it. And we drove back here one evening and did our family photos on the beach... More

I ventured out to Tunnels Beach past Hanalei because I had heard such wonderful things. It's pretty far out there and along the way there are a lot of one lane bridges. Respect the local courtesy of going 5-7 cars one way. Once that many have passed, yield for the other side to go. There's one long bridge in particular... More

If you're not staying in the north shore of Kauai this beach can be a hassle to get to. It's 45 mins from Kapa'a, 1.5 hrs from Poipu and parking can be difficult if you don't go earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon. That said, it's a beautiful beach with an amazing mountain backdrop and the snorkeling... More

Parking is awful but you will want to do this. There is a small road that allows about 10 cars to park. You can identify this road as being the only one without a sign that says "No Tunnels Parking". We preferred going about 2-3 in the afternoon. The waves were about 6" - 12" inside of the reef which... More

It is a bit of a walk to get to this beach and it is SO worth it! This was my first time snorkelling. The water is very clear, the inner reef is protected from big waves, and there are tons of fish and corals to see! I loved every second of it. There aren't signs clearly calling out this... More

We parked at Haena State Park and walked down the beach to get to Tunnels. It wasn't too crowded and there was a nice assortment of tropical fish. We like to snorkel in the late afternoon, and that may have helped get us some elbow room. INSIDE HINT: get the smoothie from the guy with the shaved ice truck. Fresh... More

I came to Tunnels about 9 years ago and was blown away by the uncrowded beach and amazing reef. I couldn't wait to get back to snorkel! But this time, the beach was very crowded - which isn't so bad in itself. However, there were so so many snorkelers the reef was overrun. Even worse, half of the snorkelers were... More
