The first day of snorkeling, the water was pretty murky and the visibility not so great. I thought we had the wrong beach after reading such glowing reviews about the snorkeling here. The second day, the water was so clear and beautiful...def better for snorkeling. The third day, we saw the greatest variety of colorful fish. The moral of the... More

This beach has some drop-dead gorgeous scenery, looking off to the west where the steep hills meet the sea. And we found the best snorkling here. I think the best spot is halfway between the west end lifeguard stand and the point at the east end. Get here before 9:00 a.m. for a shot at shaded parking.

A very nice spot to go snorkeling that's right off the beach, with calm waters (at least in August), and not too crowded. Plenty of fish to see, and the more adventuresome can swim to the outer reef for octopii and larger fish. Close in there's channels between the coral, with plenty of angelfish and humuhumu to see, with the... More

Honu are turtles...and, while you cannot guarantee that you'll swim with them...I've seen them each time we have snorkeled at Tunnels. This was my 6th visit to Kauai and I have no idea how many times we've been to Tunnels. First: parking can be an issue....you just have to deal with it. There are limited "free" spaces and some residents... More

We drove from Kapaa to this beach and despite reading the Kauai Revealed directions about specific numbers and turn offs to look for, we missed it. We ended up having to park at the parking lot and walk for a ways. The sand hurt my feet because it's pretty rocky. However, because it is secluded and hard to get to,... More

Difficult to park here -- park further up in the Haena Park or, if you are staying at Hanalei Colony Resort take the shuttle.

We were fortunate to stay in a house that was walking distance from this beach. So we never had to deal with finding a parking place. But other people are right - the parking is very limited. That being said, the beach is beautiful! We spent time sitting on the beach and enjoying the sun but mostly we snorkeled. It... More

We visited Tunnels Beach in June 2014 and were very happy we chose to snorkel here. Parking does fill in quickly here and your best bet is to arrive before 9:30 and park at the Haena State Park lot as there is a lifeguard station, public restrooms, and shower/rinse facilities here. The walk is a ways to the snorkel area... More

A very beautiful beach on the north shore. Parking is imited so get there early! Rent chairs and an umbrella so you can enjoy the day there. Secluded, uncrowded and beautiful. Many turtles and good snorkeling.

The parking is a little complicated because there's nothing really designated for it. You can park in the lot by the jewelry store down the road and walk to an entrance or wait for a spot to open up down a single, narrow dirt path RIGHT in front of the beach (we got lucky and found a tight spot). The... More
