Great shortbread. Its a funny place, in that they make shortbread cookies pretty much exclusively, and yet they are on every tourist list. Its a yummy, inexpensive gift to bring home, but no where else would one find this amount of visitor traffic for cookies., chocolate covered squid, and a few other off-beat chocolate temptations. That said, we loved the... More

I can't leave Hilo without stopping at Big Island Candies. Located in a residential neighborhood, their building is large and spacious, always squeaky clean. Kids will love watching the "cookie ladies" dipping chocolates behind a glass window. The cookies and candies are rather pricey, but their brand is a luxury "want" and a favorite for so many locals and visitors... More

I am a big fan of being able to see how things are made and this was one of the places I wanted to see while we were vacationing in Hawaii. I loved that you could see into the packaging/baking area while visiting the shop. I wish we could've done a factory tour, but we were tight on time. We... More

When in Hilo stop by Big Island Candies. Coffee and cookie samples. Lots of beautiful and tasty items. If they aren't offering samples of type you want, just ask as they are willing to give you a taste. Stamp card saves you if you purchase many items. Across street are several restaurants: Takenoko Sushi (need reservations well in advance), Miyo's... More

Immediately upon landing this is the stop you must make. You have the opportunity to see them make the candy, you get abundant samples even a chocolate covered squid( I passed on that). The most difficult part was figuring out which you were going to buy as weights in suitcases are so important. The shortbread were delicious as was the... More

and not to forget the chocolate and mac lover as well. The Big Island Candy company has everything a person with a sweet tooth would be looking for. Not only can one watch and see how the candy and the cookies is made but you also get to taste everything. It's heaven for some of us!

Bringing back candy from Hawaii gets expensive and boring. The dipped macadamia but shortbread cookies are delicious and different. This store has samples of shortbread, brownies, candy and coffee, clean bathrooms and an area to watch the candy being made. Just buy enough to save for yourself! The prices are reasonable too!

O. M. G. The title of my review says it all. The prices were actually cheaper than what I thought I would be paying, although everything added up very quickly and I found myself spending in the triple digits. But it was well worth it. It tasted amazing. And my friends that I bought stuff for loved it all. I... More

This is a great Big Island grown business. The selection of goodies is great and you can't go wrong with any of the items. When I get home I have to make sure that I make a stop here for my stock to take back to the mainland.
