The end of the Chain of Craters Road is stunning- the Sea Arch is truly photogenic. We came there in the morning and enjoyed the views alone. You can imagine what it was like when the Arch was created. No refreshment available, bring plenty of liquids and some sun protection.

I think this is one of the best activities in the park. Why? Because nowhere else can you observe the devastation and creation of a volcano in one place. The drive initiates in the forest, passing varied lava flows from the last 100 +/- years, which cut thru the forest leaving desolation. Then you suddenly (and dramatically) emerge onto the... More

Wow what a great road to drive, two lanes and smooth Tarmac too it's a doddle. Just over twenty miles to the coast and you'll descend four thousand feet! On the way down you'll pass lots of craters on both sides if the road (there's a big hint in the name of the road) they are signed and there's parking... More

Although some of this area has lost its charm due to the added restrooms and other development by the park, but it is still spectacular and unusual to see how nature has beat out human development! I believe this is best done at dusk. Just make sure don't leave too late and make sure you have a full tank of... More

A visit to the Big island is incomplete without a visit to see Pele and the volcanoes! The hikes were wonderful and you have a chance to select which hike is good for you! Great to see geology at work!

They have extended the road, to be used in case of emergencies and unfortunately did not preserve the section that was showing how lava took over the road :( They should have built a small detour or something to leave that in place, but unfortunately, the famous picture of lava at the end or the road is no longer a... One of my favorite places. Desolate fields of black lava set against brilliant blue ocean. It used to be cool to drive to the bottom and walk along the road to where the lava came over it. However, they have now reclaimed the road so now you walk along it until you come to a gate blocking you from continuing... More

The scenery here is unbelievable!! The stops are absolutely incredible! We thoroughly enjoyed the Sea Arch at the end of the road. We would definitely return! Spend 2 Days in the park if you really want to see everything. I would suggest 3 if you plan on hiking.

This is a drive not to be missed. The scenery is very interesting and spectacular to say the least. Be prepared to do lots of stops along the way for some very interesting photos

This was an interesting drive to say the least. It's interesting to see all the different volcanos and flows. It's also interesting to see how the lava flowed down steep hills and into the ocean. You can also see how more island land mass is being added. The deceiving part is that at the end of the road there is... More
