This tour was the Hilo Chain of Craters tour arranged by our cruse ship. Not sure how it is listed if not on a cruise, I know there were plenty of cars on the Chain of Craters road. Incredible visits to the steam vents, sulfur beds, and the crater rim at the Jaggar museum! The Lava tube is a must... More

This is what a visit to the park is all about. Plan your day to make the most of the sites and hikes around the park, easily accessed from the road. Pull in places or parking lots have been provided to access the principle attractions. Amazing experiences to be had. This is my third visit to the park and it... More

If you go to the Volcanoes National Park, and miss this, you have cheated yourself. It is an amazing drive. There are many pull-offs where you can get out of the car and see the various lava formations, take some great photos and feel good about yourself that you are here. By all means, don't miss this experience. It is... More

Maybe we were just lucky to have rain there but views were spectacular. We were there at the end of the day so we experience amazing sunset light plus multiple rainbows. We also walked around on various lava flows observing vegetation growing on lava rocks.

This is one of the best things to do from a car in Volcanoes national park. Take your time, stop at every exit/turnout, and you'll have a great experience. It is really humbling to see the force that is in the lava, the enormous lava fields you'll drive past will put things in perspective, and the way the terrain ends... More

Amazing sights. You can't fully comprehend the lava fields and craters until u see them. The craters and fields are well marked with signs and pull off spots. It was fun to talk with people as we traveled down the mountain. Though its 20 miles to the sea (and worth every mile) it takes about 2+ hours. We like to... More

Unfortunately, there is no longer the dead end. The road covered by lava is destroyed and now they are building a new road.

Definitely worth the drive. The road is paved and not difficult to traverse, and there is lots to see. There are multiple trails along the way and some cool craters to take pictures of. The end of the drive has the sea arch and you get a great view of the lava fields; you can see the ages of the... More

We drive this all the way to the Holei Sea Arch. We parked at the road's end and then walked a bit further down the gated road (closed to vehicles but open go foot traffic) to see where the road was engulfed by lava. Super cool but a little disappointed to see the gravel road on top of the lava...the... More

Decided to take the road while waiting for the night show at the caldera. Enjoyed the scenery and the old lava fields and checked out the lava tube, that was the 2nd best part of the drive, the caldera at night was the best.
