It's another way of seeing the old lava flows. The special view points of this attraction is the coast with the lava arch, and the "end of the road" where the lava cuts the road, and also the road sign stuck deep in lava. I don't know why they have us park the car like one mile away and make... More

Very cool to see where the lava took over the road. Walk a little ways out and get a pic of the "No Parking" sign buried in the lava. Ironic!! Quite a long drive down to the end of the road very winding road, but scenic. It was VERY windy the day we were there. Good thing it was warm.... More

We missed most of the good views because of the mist that enveloped the park the day of our visit. This kept us from stopping at the vistas because there was nothing to see except white and we didn't want to get wet. Holei Arch at the end of the road was underwhelming; like the petroglyphs we could have just... More

Very cool drive through lots of lava fields. We stopped at a couple of the craters but not all. They seemed to be very similar. We did drive to the end. The arches is right at the end of the road and cool to see. If you want to walk the 1 mile round trip to where the lava covers... More

There are lots of places to pull over and many informational boards along the route. It's very easy to see some of the smaller lava tubes left behind.

We weren't necessarily planning on taking this drive, but since it was raining the park ranger suggested we go ahead and do this and hope that the weather cleared off later for the hike we wanted to do. We're sure glad we made the drive. Even in the intermittent rain, this was an awe inspiring drive. From rain forest at... More

Make time for the drive from the visitor's centre down to sea level on the Chain of Craters road it is worth the time. The changing landscapes, amazing views and walking on the lava where it crosses the road is unforgettable.

Really enjoyed this drive and several of the short walks. Set aside 3+ hours and drive down to the coast. So many fascinating things to see from massive areas covered in old lava to odd looking lava trees. Stop at the Visitors Centre and get the map. The lava isn't currently flowing in this area.

A long, winding road that descends the steep cliffs of Kilauea. The drive is gorgeous as you descend from lush forest to a landscape dominated by lava flows and ocean currents. The road ends near a point where a lava flow from Pu'u 'O'o closed the road. Where else can you see where the island is "growing"?

We really enjoyed this drive. We didn't stop at many of the craters at the beginning of the road but really took our time during the second half of the road as the views while you descend down to the coastal area are really awesome. Lots of places to go for a short hike. The end of the road was... More
