Las Sepulturas is the name archaeologists gave to these site which is considered a residential complex, or domestic complex. The site contains the houses of the wealthy people who ruled Copan. Not that many people remember about coming here, so the site is almost always empty. There are nice hiking trails but I remember many mosquitoes too, so bring repellent.

just as impressive as the larger ruins nearby, just a quick taxi ( moto-taxi ) ride away. You can enter these ruins with the same ticket you bought at the larger Copan Ruins. Go on your own or with a guide.

Not many people come to visit Las Sepulturas, and that will make your visit more enjoyable, as you will pretty much have the place to yourselves. the first time I came I was completely alone, and it was a strange combination between a bit spooky and a bit tranquil. this time I had a guide. Definitely work a visit, after... More

The scribes home was very impressive as benefitted the occupants who were held in such esteem. They were larger than the other homes and had very nice figures adorning the outside of the home.

La Sepultora is less developed, more original, more rustic, less manicured. More immersive, to me. We showed our ticket from the main ruins, and got in free.

After visiting the Copan ruins (which was extraordinary) we visited these much smaller but very rewarding ruins just a few miles out of the city of Copan Ruins --- this was a very nice destination and we thoroughly enjoyed it

Get a tour guide to tell you the details. Quite interesting how the rich Mayans lived. This place shows their homes and their areas where they lived.

Peaceful and different. I absolutely loved it. Needs more advertising so people visit but then it wouldn't be peaceful.

This secondary archaeological site is much smaller than the main ruins, and consists of housing complexes. There are very few hieroglyphics to be seen here, but the architecture itself is in better condition than on the main site. Very few people visit it, so it’s very quiet. Your ticket for the main site gives you free entry to this site... More

By all means, don't call it quits after seeing the main ruins or you've missed half the story. The main ruins show you the grand temples and stelae comprising the cultural and political aspects of Mayan life, but they give you no hint of actual everyday life. Sepulturas gives you a peek into the actual houses where the people lived... More
