The "suburbs" of Copan

Take a guide with you when you visit las Sepultures. You can take a took-tuk from the main Copan site for about $1.50, rather than walk.

Quiet, woods surrounded housing area, probably inhabited by scribes and priests. Wonderfull spot for birding and we were the only ones visiting.

If you're in town for a week, this is well worth visiting, but if you're in a hurry, it's a long walk, and the site really is a ruin. The house of the writer is remarkable, but it is the only remaining structure that was in good shape.

These aren't as spectacular as the ruinas, but they are worth a visit as there are loads of buildings such as the scribes house. There is a trail to follow and as it is quite woody there are surprises around several corners. It is about 1400metres down a designated path from the main ruinas, so about 2km from town. If... We couldn't undestand what each piece means because it does not contain information explaining its story. We didn't complete the whole tour, no tour guy available.

Glad to have taken a morning walk through the trail, the mud had dried somewhat, and there were no bugs. It was fascinating to learn about the burial grounds of the Mayan, the sculptors, and the Mayan highway. Ahh, by that time, I no longer wanted to hear about hieroglyphs.

We visited this site with Yovani Barraza an excellent birder. The grounds are lovely and historically important and the birding was excellent.

Puts into perspective the size of Copan and the work done to restore the main site. This site is still partly covered in jungle, with large open areas and impressive structures. A quite large village site, can be done on a separate day to the main ruins, buy the ticket at the same time as purchasing the ticket to the... More

We walked here from the main Copan Ruins, which was not hard (about 1.5 km). The ticket includes this site, so you might as well take advantage and come! Unfortunately we had underestimated our cash and so could not afford a guide, but he did still treat us to some really interesting info about the site and sent us on... More

just as impressive as the larger ruins nearby, just a quick taxi ( moto-taxi ) ride away. You can enter these ruins with the same ticket you bought at the larger Copan Ruins. Go on your own or with a guide.
