The "suburbs" of Copan

Take a guide with you when you visit las Sepultures. You can take a took-tuk from the main Copan site for about $1.50, rather than walk.

This place is nice but if you are visiting after the company ruins like most people it will be underwhelming. That being said the place is quiet and could be a good place for a picnic lunch or early morning bird watching. Take a taxi(took-tuck) instead of walking as the pathway there is mostly unshaded.

I believe this is the only example found to date showing how the regular middle class Mayans lived. This is worth the effort to see. This site is about a half mile down the street from the ruins. Entrance to this site is included with the purchase of a ticket to the main ruins of Copan (so don't lose the... More

Other than the tomb or two, there was not that much to see in my opinion. Again, you have to use a lot of imagination.

I wish they had someone to give out tours and explain the story behind it! Maybe because it is fairly small, it's not such a great deal to have tour guides.

It was hard for us to focus on the ruins here for watching the many species of birds and enjoying the peace and quiet of the site. Only a 20 min walk from the main ruin site, this little visited area is fascinating both from the cultural aspects and as a nature preserve. We visited two times after visits to... More

Certainly worth seeing the Sepulturas, they are amazing ruins. The preservation of all the sites in Copán is excellent. Be sure to arrange a horseback tour to the Mayan 'Toad' Hospital outside the main attractions with Margarito. It is a fantastic experience.

Quiet, woods surrounded housing area, probably inhabited by scribes and priests. Wonderfull spot for birding and we were the only ones visiting.

If you're in town for a week, this is well worth visiting, but if you're in a hurry, it's a long walk, and the site really is a ruin. The house of the writer is remarkable, but it is the only remaining structure that was in good shape.

These aren't as spectacular as the ruinas, but they are worth a visit as there are loads of buildings such as the scribes house. There is a trail to follow and as it is quite woody there are surprises around several corners. It is about 1400metres down a designated path from the main ruinas, so about 2km from town. If...
